Strong skew commutativity preserving maps on rings with involution

Let R be a unital *-ring with the unit I.Assume that R contains a symmetric idempotent P which satisfies ARP = 0 implies A = 0 and AR(I-P) = 0 implies A = 0.In this paper,it is shown that a surjective map Φ:R→R is strong skew commutativity preserving(that is,satisfiesΦ(A)Φ(B)-Φ(B)Φ(A)~w= AB-BA~w for all A,B∈R) if and only if there exist a map f:R→Z_s(R)and an element Z∈Z_s(R) with Z~2=I such that Φ(A)=ZA +f(A) for all A∈R,where Z_s(R) is the symmetric center of R.As applications,the strong skew commutativity preserving maps on unital prime *-rings and von Neumann algebras with no central summands of type I_1 are characterized.     

Lorentz detuning and tuning system study of 3+1/2cell DC-SC photo-injector for PKU-FEL

A 3+1/2cell DC-SC photo-injector for PKU-FEL facility is under development, which is an upgrade design of the successful 1+1/2cell DC-SC photo-injector. The Lorentz detuning and tuning structure for the 3+1/2cell superconducting cavity is presented in this paper. The Lorentz force detuning coefficient is 7.2 Hz/(MV/m)2 with double stiffening rings for the half cell and single stiffening rings between the adjacent TESLA cells. With the special stiffening structure, the 3+1/2cell whole cavity needs only one tuner. The influences of the tuning on frequency shift, field flatness and average gradient are discussed in this paper. The simulation results show that the stiffening rings' design is successful.     

A direct approach to quaternionic manifolds

The recent definition of slice regular function of several quaternionic variables suggests a new notion of quaternionic manifold. We give the definition of quaternionic regular manifold, as a space locally modeled on , in a slice regular sense. We exhibit some significant classes of examples, including manifolds which carry a quaternionic affine structure.     

Eccentricity effects on the quantum confinement in double quantum rings

This work presents a theoretical study of the energy spectrum of GaAs/AlGaAs concentric double quantum rings, under an applied magnetic field directed perpendicular to the ring plane. The Schrödinger equation for this system is solved in a realistic model consisting of rings with finite barrier potentials. Numerical results show that increasing the magnetic field intensity leads to oscillations in the ground state energy which, in contrast to the usual Aharonov-Bohm oscillations, do not have a well defined period, due to the coupling between inner and outer ring states. However, when one considers an elliptical geometry for the rings, the energy spectra of the inner and outer ring states are decoupled and the periodicity of the oscillations is recovered.

We apply a recursive construction for biembeddings of Latin squares to produce a new infinite family of biembeddings of cyclic Latin squares of even side having a high degree of symmetry. Reapplication of the construction yields two further classes of biembeddings.     

Univalence criterion and convexity for an integral operator

For analytic functions f and g in the open unit disk U, a new integral operator I₁(f,g)(z) is introduced. The main object of this paper is to obtain a univalence condition and the order of convexity for the integral operator I₁(f,g)(z).     

Computing eigenspaces with specified eigenvalues of a regular matrix pair (A,B) and condition estimation: theory,algorithms and software

Theory, algorithms and LAPACK-style software for computing a pair of deflating subspaces with specified eigenvalues of a regular matrix pair (A, B) and error bounds for computed quantities (eigenvalues and eigenspaces) are presented. Thereordering of specified eigenvalues is performed with a direct orthogonal transformation method with guaranteed numerical stability. Each swap of two adjacent diagonal blocks in the real generalized Schur form, where at least one of them corresponds to a complex conjugate pair of eigenvalues, involves solving a generalized Sylvester equation and the construction of two orthogonal transformation matrices from certain eigenspaces associated with the diagonal blocks. The swapping of two 1×1 blocks is performed using orthogonal (unitary) Givens rotations. Theerror bounds are based on estimates of condition numbers for eigenvalues and eigenspaces. The software computes reciprocal values of a condition number for an individual eigenvalue (or a cluster of eigenvalues), a condition number for an eigenvector (or eigenspace), and spectral projectors onto a selected cluster. By computing reciprocal values we avoid overflow. Changes in eigenvectors and eigenspaces are measured by their change in angle. The condition numbers yield bothasymptotic andglobal error bounds. The asymptotic bounds are only accurate for small perturbations (E, F) of (A, B), while the global bounds work for all (E, F.) up to a certain bound, whose size is determined by the conditioning of the problem. It is also shown how these upper bounds can be estimated. Fortran 77software that implements our algorithms for reordering eigenvalues, computing (left and right) deflating subspaces with specified eigenvalues and condition number estimation are presented. Computational experiments that illustrate the accuracy, efficiency and reliability of our software are also described.
