Plücker-type relations for orthogonal planes

We explore a Plücker-type relation which occurs naturally in the study of maximally supersymmetric solutions of certain supergravity theories. This relation generalises at the same time the classical Plücker relation and the Jacobi identity for a metric Lie algebra and coincides with the Jacobi identity of a metric n-Lie algebra. In low dimension we present evidence for a geometric characterisation of the relation in terms of middle-dimensional orthogonal planes in Euclidean or Lorentzian inner product spaces.

Common fixed point theorems of Gregus type for weakly compatible mappings satisfying contractive conditions of integral type

We prove a common fixed point theorem of Gregus type for four mappings satisfying a contractive condition of integral type in metric spaces using the concept of weak compatibility which generalizes Theorem 2 of [A. Djoudi, L. Nisse, Gregus type fixed points for weakly compatible mappings, Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. 10 (2003) 369-378] and other papers. We prove also common fixed point theorems of Gregus type using a strict contractive condition of integral type, a property (E.A) and a common property (E.A) introduced by [M. Aamri, D. El Moutawakil, Some new common fixed point theorems under strict contractive conditions, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 270 (2002) 181-188] and [W. Liu, J. Wu, Z. Li, Common fixed points of single-valued and multi-valued maps, Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. 19 (2005) 3045-3055], respectively.     

Riesz-Nágy singular functions revisited

In 1952 F. Riesz and Sz.-Nágy published an example of a monotonic continuous function whose derivative is zero almost everywhere, that is to say, a singular function. Besides, the function was strictly increasing. Their example was built as the limit of a sequence of deformations of the identity function. As an easy consequence of the definition, the derivative, when it existed and was finite, was found to be zero. In this paper we revisit the Riesz-Nágy family of functions and we relate it to a system for real number representation which we call (τ,τ−1)-expansions. With the help of these real number expansions we generalize the family. The singularity of the functions is proved through some metrical properties of the expansions used in their definition which also allows us to give a more precise way of determining when the derivative is 0 or infinity.
