Thermal–Statistical Odd–Even Fermions’ Staggering Effect and the Order–Disorder Disjunction

We review thermal–statistical considerations on the odd–even staggering effect (OES) in fermions. There is a well known OES in nuclear binding energies at zero temperature. We discuss here a thermal OES (finite temperatures) that establishes links with the order–disorder disjunction. The present thermal considerations cannot be found in the nuclear literature.

Energetic Cost of Statistical Order-Degree Change in a Fermions’ Set

We discuss novel many-fermions thermodynamics’ features. They refer to the energy cost associated to order-disorder changes. Our thermal quantum statistical scenario is controlled by suitable fermion-fermion interactions. We deal with two well-known quantum interactions that operate within an exactly solvable model. This model is able to adequately describe some aspects of fermion-dynamics, particularly level-crossings. We describe things via employment of Gibbs’ canonical ensemble strictures. We show that judicious manipulation of the energy cost associated to statistical order (disorder) variations generates useful information-quantifiers. The underlying idea is that changes in the degree of order are intimately linked to level-crossings energetic costs.     

A formal theory of generalized intermediate syllogisms

In this paper, we continue developing the formal theory of intermediate quantifiers (expressions such as most, few, almost all, a lot of, many, a great deal of, a large part of, a small part of). The theory is a fuzzy-logic formalization of the concept introduced by Peterson in his book. We will syntactically prove that 105 generalized Aristotle's syllogisms introduced in this book are valid in our theory. At the same time, we will also prove that syllogisms listed there as invalid are invalid also in our theory. Therefore, we believe that our theory provides a reasonable mathematical model of the generalized syllogistics.     

Mining information from time series in the form of sentences of natural language

The goal of this paper is to provide a more detailed explanation of the principles how special formulas that characterize properties of trend of time series can be formed and how they are interpreted. Then we show how these formulas can be used in a tectogrammatical tree that construes special sentences of natural language, using which information on behavior of time series is provided. We also outline the principles of mining this information. The last part is devoted to application of the theory of intermediate quantifiers to mining summarized information on time series also in sentences of natural language.     

Strict and tolerant antidivision queries with ordinal layered preferences

In this paper, we are interested in taking preferences into account for a family of queries inspired by the antidivision. An antidivision query aims at retrieving the elements associated with none of the elements of a specified set of values. We suggest the introduction of preferences inside such queries with the following specificities: (i) the user gives his/her preferences in an ordinal way and (ii) the preferences apply to the divisor which is defined as a hierarchy of sets. Different uses of the hierarchy are investigated, which leads to queries conveying different semantics and the property of the result delivered is characterized. Furthermore, the case where a conjunctive stratified antidivision query returns an empty set of answers is dealt with, and an approach aimed at relaxing such queries is proposed.
