Carlsson's rank conjecture and a conjecture on square-zero upper triangular matrices

Let k be an algebraically closed field and A the polynomial algebra in r variables with coefficients in k. In case the characteristic of k is 2, Carlsson [9] conjectured that for any DG-A-module M of dimension N as a free A-module, if the homology of M is nontrivial and finite dimensional as a k-vector space, then $2^r\le N$. Here we state a stronger conjecture about varieties of square-zero upper triangular $N\times N$ matrices with entries in A. Using stratifications of these varieties via Borel orbits, we show that the stronger conjecture holds when $N<8$ or $r<3$ without any restriction on the characteristic of k. As a consequence, we obtain a new proof for many of the known cases of Carlsson's conjecture and give new results when $N>4$ and $r=2$.     

A conformal mapping approach for investigating the free-boundary seepage from symmetric channels

We present a new method to investigate the two-dimensional free-boundary groundwater seepage from symmetric soil channels into a homogeneous isotropic porous medium. We use Levi–Civitá’s function to construct an integral representation for the conformal mapping of the complex potential domain onto the physical flow domain. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to calculate the coefficients of the Maclaurin series expansion of Levi–Civitá’s function. The coordinates of the points from the channel contour, calculated by means of the integral representation, must satisfy the analytic equation of the contour. We use this condition to define the objective function of the genetic algorithm. Levi–Civitá’s function is afterwards used to calculate the seepage loss, the free lines, the streamlines, the equipotential lines, the isobars and the velocity field. Some examples illustrate the method.     

TargetATPsite: A template‐free method for ATP‐binding sites prediction with residue evolution image sparse representation and classifier ensemble

Understanding the interactions between proteins and ligands is critical for protein function annotations and drug discovery. We report a new sequence‐based template‐free predictor (TargetATPsite) to identify the Adenosine‐5′‐triphosphate (ATP) binding sites with machine‐learning approaches. Two steps are implemented in TargetATPsite: binding residues and pockets predictions, respectively. To predict the binding residues, a novel image sparse representation technique is proposed to encode residue evolution information treated as the input features. An ensemble classifier constructed based on support vector machines (SVM) from multiple random under‐samplings is used as the prediction model, which is effective for dealing with imbalance phenomenon between the positive and negative training samples. Compared with the existing ATP‐specific sequence‐based predictors, TargetATPsite is featured by the second step of possessing the capability of further identifying the binding pockets from the predicted binding residues through a spatial clustering algorithm. Experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the efficacy of TargetATPsite. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Synthesis,Aromaticity, and Application of peri-Pentacenopentacene: Localized Representation of Benzenoid Aromatic Compounds

We report the synthesis and optoelectronic properties of TIPS-peri-pentacenopentacene ( TIPS-PPP ), a vertical extension of TIPS-pentacene ( TIPS-PEN ) and a low-band-gap material with remarkable stability. We found the synthetic conditions to avoid the competition between 1,2- and 1,4-addition of lithium acetylide on the large aromatic dione. The high stability of TIPS-PPP is due to the peri-fusion which increases the aromaticity by generating two localized aromatic sextets that are flanked with 2 diene fragments, similar to two fused-anthracenes. Like TIPS-PEN , TIPS-PPP shows the archetypal 2D brickwall motif in crystals with a larger transfer integral and smaller reorganization energy. The high mobility of up to 1 cm² V^?1 s^?1 was obtained in an organic field-effect transistor fabricated by a wet process. Also, TIPS-PPP was used as a near-infrared (NIR) emitter for NIR organic-light-emitting-diode devices resulting in a high external quantum efficiency at 800 nm.     

Non-integrability vs. integrability in pentagram maps

We revisit recent results on integrable cases for higher-dimensional generalizations of the 2D pentagram map: short-diagonal, dented, deep-dented, and corrugated versions, and define a universal class of pentagram maps, which are proved to possess projective duality. We show that in many cases the pentagram map cannot be included into integrable flows as a time-one map, and discuss how the corresponding notion of discrete integrability can be extended to include jumps between invariant tori. We also present a numerical evidence that certain generalizations of the integrable 2D pentagram map are non-integrable and present a conjecture for a necessary condition of their discrete integrability.     

The minimal dimensions of faithful representations for Heisenberg Lie superalgebras

This paper aims to determine the minimal dimensions and super-dimensions of faithful representations for Heisenberg Lie superalgebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero.

基于科学哲学和语言学理论,强调化学学科中的三重表征的话语意义,旨在帮助学生将头脑中的三重表征思维用语言科学地表达出来并进行社会性交往。在明确三重表征与话语的关系的基础上,借助于相关教学片段,对三重表征的话语意义(语法学、语义学和语用学意义)进行探析,将宏观微观符号表征中各自的语言内部联系以及彼此间的话语表达关系解构出来,从而全面提升学生在建构、关联及转换表征过程中的交往效率。最后针对相关教学问题,提出了3条教学策略。
