We consider the overdetermined eigenvalue problem on a sufficiently regular connected open domain Ω on the 2-sphere :
where α ≠ 0. We show that if α = 2 and Ω is simply connected then the problem admits a (nonzero) solution if and only if Ω is a geodesic disk. We furthermore extend to domains on the isoperimetric inequality of Payne–Weinberger for the first buckling eigenvalue of compact planar domains. As a corollary we prove that Ω is a geodesic disk if the above overdetermined eigenvalue problem admits a (nonzero) solution with ∂u/∂ν = 0 on ∂Ω and α = λ2 the second eigenvalue of the Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary condition. This extends a result proved in the case of the Euclidean plane by C. Berenstein.  相似文献

Summary Nonlinear dynamic buckling of nonlinearly elastic dissipative/nondissipative multi-mass systems, mainly under step load of infinite duration, is studied in detail. These systems, under the same loading applied statically, experience a limit point instability. The analysis can be readily extended to the case of dynamic buckling under impact loading. Energy, topological and geometrical aspects for the total potential energyV, which is constrained to lie in a region of phase-space whereV0, allow conclusions to be drawn directly regarding dynamic buckling. Criteria leading to very good, approximate and lower/upper bound dynamic buckling estimates are readily established without solving the highly nonlinear set of equations of motion. The theory is illustrated with several analyses of a two-degree-of-freedom model.  相似文献

This paper extends Le van's work to the case of nonlinear problem and the complicated configuration. The wrinkling stress distribution and the pressure effects are also included in our analysis. Pseudo-beam method is presented based on the inflatable beam theory to model the inflatable structures as a set of inflatable beam elements with a prestressed state. In this method, the discretized nonlinear equations are given based upon the virtual work principle with a 3-node Timoshenko's beam model. Finite element simulation is performed by using a 3-node BEAM189 element incorporating ANSYS nonlinear program. The pressure effect is equivalent included in our method by modifying beam element cross-section parameters related to pressure. A benchmark example, the bending case of an inflatable cantilever beam, is performed to verify the accuracy of our proposed method. The comparisons reveal that the numerical results obtained with our method are close to open published analytical and membrane finite element results. The method is then used to evaluate the whole buckling and the loadcarrying characteristics of an inflatable support frame subjected to a compression force. The wrinkling stress and region characteristics are also shown in the end. This method gives better convergence characteristics, and requires much less computation time. It is very effective to deal with the whole load-carrying ability analytical problems for large scale inflatable structures with complex configuration.  相似文献

The finite-difference method is a numerical technique for obtaining approximate solutions to differential equations. The main objective of the present study is to give a new aspect to the finite-difference method by using a variational derivative. By applying this formulation, accurate values of the buckling loads of beams and frames with various end supports are obtained. We give the results of large deflection experiments involving the bending and twisting of 1 mm diameter nickel-titanium alloy rods, up to 2 m in length. These results are compared to calculations based on the Cosserat theory of rods. We present details of this theory, formulated as a boundary value problem. The mathematical boundary conditions model the experimental setup. The rods are clamped in aligned chucks and the experiments are carried out under rigid loading conditions. An experiment proceeds by either twisting the ends of the rod by a certain amount and then adjusting the slack, or fixing the slack and varying the amount of twist. In this way, commonly encountered phenomena are investigated, such as snap buckling, the formation of loops, and buckling into and out of planar configurations. The effect of gravity is discussed.  相似文献

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in crystalline bundles may exhibit a transition in which the cross-sections of tubes turn from perfectly circular to hexagonal, depending upon the tube diameter and externally applied pressure, and this structural instability leads to an abrupt change in the bulk elastic properties of SWNT bundles. This paper presents a hybrid atom/continuum model to study the bulk elastic properties of SWNT bundles, and the predicted characteristics of this structural instability agree well with the experimental observations available in the literature. Linearized bulk elastic properties of SWNT bundles with respect to a stable configuration are transversely isotropic and hence can be characterized by five independent elastic moduli. A complete set of these five moduli is predicted for the first time. It is found that the deformability of tube cross-sections play a dominant role in characterizing the transverse moduli.  相似文献

用特征线法分析了刚性块轴向撞击弹塑性直杆时应力波传播的全过程,得到了杆冲击端与固定端应力的变化规律及刚性块与杆首次分离的时间.基于能量原理,考虑了弹塑性应力波的传播与反射,建立了弹塑性杆在刚性块轴向撞击下的横向扰动方程,给出了问题的级数解,由解的稳定性得到了发生屈曲时的临界条件;通过数值计算和分析,给出了临界速度与冲击质量、线性强化模量及临界时间间的关系.  相似文献
