Symbolic evaluation of coefficients in Airy-type asymptotic expansions

Computer algebra algorithms are developed for evaluating the coefficients in Airy-type asymptotic expansions that are obtained from integrals with a large parameter. The coefficients are defined from recursive schemes obtained from integration by parts. An application is given for the Weber parabolic cylinder function.     

On computational proofs of the existence of solutions to nonlinear parabolic problems

This paper is an extension of the preceding study (Nakao, this journal, 1991) in which we described a numerical verification method of the solution for one-space dimensional parabolic problems, to the several-space dimensional case. Here, numerical verification means the automatic proof of the existence of solutions to the problems by some numerical techniques on a computer. We reformulate the verification condition for nonlinear parabolic initial boundary value problems using the fixed-point problem of a compact operator on certain function spaces. As in the preceding study based upon a simple C⁰ finite-element approximation and its constructive a priori error estimates, a numerical verification procedure is presented with some numerical examples.     

Remarks on a semilinear heat equation with integral boundary conditions

For a semilinear heat equation we consider a nonlocal boundary problem. On the basis of the solution of a Dirichlet problem for a parabolic equation and Volterra integral equation we establish the well-posedness for the nonlocal problem, which generalizes some recent results.     

Existence of nontrivial nonnegative periodic solutions for a class of doubly degenerate parabolic equation with nonlocal terms

In this paper, the authors establish the existence of nontrivial nonnegative periodic solutions for a class of doubly degenerate parabolic equation with nonlocal terms by using the theory of Leray-Schauder's degree.

Monotonicity of input-output mappings in inverse coefficient and source problems for parabolic equations

This article presents a mathematical analysis of input-output mappings in inverse coefficient and source problems for the linear parabolic equation ut=(kx(x)ux)+F(x,t), (x,t)∈ΩT:=(0,1)×(0,T]. The most experimentally feasible boundary measured data, the Neumann output (flux) data f(t):=−k(0)ux(0,t), is used at the boundary x=0. For each inverse problems structure of the input-output mappings is analyzed based on maximum principle and corresponding adjoint problems. Derived integral identities between the solutions of forward problems and corresponding adjoint problems, permit one to prove the monotonicity and invertibility of the input-output mappings. Some numerical applications are presented.     

Existence and uniqueness of local solutions to a class of quasilinear degenerate parabolic systems

In this paper, the authors study an initial and boundary value problem to a system of evolution p-Laplacian equations coupled with general nonlinear terms. The authors use the method of regularization to construct a sequence of approximation solutions with the help of monotone iteration technique and hence obtain the existence of solutions to a regularized system of equations. Then the existence of solutions to the system of evolution p-Laplacian equations is obtained with the use of a standard limiting process. The uniqueness of the solution is also proven.     

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of semilinear parabolic PDEs with non-Lipschitz coefficients

In this paper the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of semilinear parabolic partial differential equations with non-Lipschitz coefficients on Riemannian manifold are obtained. Two non-Lipschitz functions are provided to show our results.     

Clustering Rules: A Comparison of Partitioning and Hierarchical Clustering Algorithms

Previous research has resulted in a number of different algorithms for rule discovery. Two approaches discussed here, the ‘all-rules’ algorithm and multi-objective metaheuristics, both result in the production of a large number of partial classification rules, or ‘nuggets’, for describing different subsets of the records in the class of interest. This paper describes the application of a number of different clustering algorithms to these rules, in order to identify similar rules and to better understand the data.     

Performance analysis and design of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes for underwater magnetic induction communications

Magnetic induction (MI) communication is an effective scheme for underwater wireless communication. In this paper, we aim to design an underwater MI communication system based on Quasi-cyclic LDPC (QC-LDPC) codes. Firstly, for a given QC-LDPC code used in underwater MI communication, we propose a novel algorithm to evaluate its performance, which is named as underwater magnetic induction protograph (UWMIP) extrinsic information transfer algorithm. Furthermore, we present a differential evolution UWMIP (DE-UWMIP) algorithm, which incorporates the differential evolution method and the UWMIP algorithm. By this algorithm, we search the optimized QC-LDPC codes with best distance threshold. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective and provide a good guidance to design the underwater MI communication system.
