Direct numerical simulations are conducted for a Newtonian drop in a Newtonian matrix subjected to large amplitude oscillatory shear flows. In the experimental study of Guido et al. (in Rheol Acta 43:575–583, 2004), the drop shape is found to oscillate at higher harmonics of the forcing frequency when the capillary number is increased. Their phenomenological model requires a much smaller capillary number for predicting the harmonic nature of the experimental data. In this paper, computational results on the evolution of drop length and inclination angle are obtained at the same fluid and flow properties as the experiments, and are shown to reasonably reproduce the experimental data. In particular, the computed velocity fields around the drop are shown to elucidate the over-rotation, which is a mechanism for the experimentally observed harmonics.  相似文献

A nonlinear spectral problem for a Sturm-Liouville equation-(p(x, λ)y'(x, λ))' + q(x, λ) y(x, λ) = 0 on a finite interval [a, b] with λ-dependent boundary conditions is considered. The spectral parameter λ is varying in an interval ∧ and p(x, λ), q(x, A) are real, continuous functions on [a, b] × ∧ Some criteria to the eigenvalue accumulation at the endpoints of A will be established. We obtain L2 decay estimates in λ for oscillatory integral operators Tλ whose phase functions are homogeneous polynomials of degree m and satisfy various genericity assumptions. The decay rates obtained are optimal in the case of (2+2)-dimensions for any m, while in higher dimensions the result is sharp for m sufficiently large. The proof for large m follows from essentially algebraic considerations. For cubics in (2+2)-dimensions, the proof involves decomposing the operator near the conic zero variety of the determinant of the Hessian of the phase function, using an elaboration of the general approach of Phong and Stein [D.H. Phong, E.M. Stein, Models of degenerate Fourier integral operators and Radon transforms, Ann. of Math. (2) 140 (1994) 703-722].  相似文献

Highly complicated shock wave dynamics has been numerically calculated by solving the Euler equations for a circular shock tube suddenly expanded three times of the original tube diameter atx=0. Shock waves of different shock Mach number,M s =1.5 and 2.0, have produced remarkably distinct blast jet structures. A planar shock wave took its final form after the blast by repeated Mach reflections of the blast wave: the first one at the wall and the second one at the central axis. The central Mach disc overtook and merged with the annular Mach stem before the planar shock wave was formed. In contrast to the blast wave which would propagate spherically in an open space, the present blast wave undergoes complex morphological transformation in the restricted flow passage, resulting in an unstable and oscillatory blast jet structure of highly rotational nature. The slipstream tube emanating from the shock tube exit corner decomposed into a chain of small vortex rings that interacted with the barrel shock of the jet, which caused periodic collapse of the jet structure. The finite volume-FCT formulation equipped with the time-dependenth-refinement adaptive unstructured triangular mesh technique in the present paper has contributed to resolution of the intricate physical discontinuities developing in the blast flow fields.  相似文献

This article concerns heat transfer due to thermocapillary convection induced by an air bubble introduced under a heated wall into a silicone oil layer. An experimental study is carried out under normal gravity conditions with direct measurements by means of a heat fluxmeter. Effects of the bubble size and the temperature gradient are systematically investigated for two values of viscosity. The nature of the thermocapillary convection state (stationary or oscillatory) is determined by shadowgraphy. Two regimes of heat transfer are made evident. We have investigated ultraviolet (UV) photorefractive effect of lithium niobate doubly doped with Ce and Cu. It is found the diffraction efficiency shows oscillating behavior under UV-light-recording. A model in which electrons and holes can be excited from impurity centers in the UV region is proposed to study the oscillatory behavior of the diffraction efficiency. On the basis of the material equations and the coupled-wave equations, we found that the oscillatory behavior is due to the oscillation of the relative spatial phase shift Φ. And the electron–hole competition may cause the oscillation of the relative spatial phase shift. A switch point from electron grating to hole grating is chosen to realize nonvolatile readout by a red light with high sensitivity (0.4 cm/J).  相似文献

Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one oscillatory solution of a second-order quasilinear differential equation are presented. These results yield also new conditions guaranteeing the coexistence of oscillatory and nonoscillatory solutions. Our approach is based on the asymptotic representation of solutions by means of a periodic function and of a suitable zero-counting function.  相似文献
