Steepest Descent, CG, and Iterative Regularization of Ill-Posed Problems   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:2  
The state of the art iterative method for solving large linear systems is the conjugate gradient (CG) algorithm. Theoretical convergence analysis suggests that CG converges more rapidly than steepest descent. This paper argues that steepest descent may be an attractive alternative to CG when solving linear systems arising from the discretization of ill-posed problems. Specifically, it is shown that, for ill-posed problems, steepest descent has a more stable convergence behavior than CG, which may be explained by the fact that the filter factors for steepest descent behave much less erratically than those for CG. Moreover, it is shown that, with proper preconditioning, the convergence rate of steepest descent is competitive with that of CG.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors discuss the stability of the solutions to Hilbert boundary value problem under perturbation of the unit circle. When the index of this problem is non-negative, by extending Lavrentjev's conformal mapping on a region approximating to a unit disc, we show the solutions are stable under small perturbations. For negative index we give a conception of quasi-solution and discuss its stability correspondingly.  相似文献

This paper considers the following Cauchy problem for semilinear wave equations in $n$ space dimensions $$\align \square\p &=F(\partial\p ),\\p (0,x)&=f(x),\quad \partial_t\p (0,x)=g(x), \endalign$$ where $\square =\partial_t^2-\triangle$ is the wave operator, $F$ is quadratic in $\partial\p$ with $\partial =(\partial_t,\partial_{x_1},\cdots ,\partial_{x_n})$. The minimal value of $s$ is determined such that the above Cauchy problem is locally well-posed in $H^s$. It turns out that for the general equation $s$ must satisfy $$s>\max\Big(\frac{n}{2}, \frac{n+5}{4}\Big).$$ This is due to Ponce and Sideris (when $n=3$) and Tataru (when $n\ge 5$). In this paper we study a quasilinear boundary value problem of Neumann type with discontinuous terms. In particular we consider a problem in which the p–Laplacian is involved. In order to prove the existence of solutions we replace this problem with a multivalued approximation of it and, using a variational approach for locally Lipschitz functionals, we prove two existence results for it.  相似文献

An embedding criterion for interpolation spaces is formulated and applied to the study of the Riesz basis property in the L 2,g space of eigenfunctions of an indefinite Sturm–Liouville problem u=gu on the interval (-1,1) with the Dirichlet boundary conditions, provided that the function g(x) changes sign at the origin. In particular, the basis property criterion is established for an odd g(x). Some connections with stability in interpolation scales are discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the six-dimensional Schrödinger equation for a three-body system with central pair interactions of a more general form than Coulomb interactions. Regular general and special physical solutions of this equation are represented by infinite asymptotic series in integer powers of the distance between two particles and in the sought functions of the other three-body coordinates. Constructing such functions in angular bases composed of spherical and bispherical harmonics or symmetrized Wigner D-functions is reduced to solving simple recursive algebraic equations. For projections of physical solutions on the angular bases functions, we derive boundary conditions at the pair impact point.  相似文献

Fast direct solvers for the Poisson equation with homogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions on special triangles and tetrahedra are constructed. The domain given is extended by symmetrization or skew symmetrization onto a rectangle or a rectangular parallelepiped and a fast direct solver is used there. All extendable domains are found.
