Increasingly large volumes of space–time data are collected everywhere by mobile computing applications, and in many of these cases, temporal data are obtained by registering events, for example, telecommunication or Web traffic data. Having both the spatial and temporal dimensions adds substantial complexity to data analysis and inference tasks. The computational complexity increases rapidly for fitting Bayesian hierarchical models, as such a task involves repeated inversion of large matrices. The primary focus of this paper is on developing space–time autoregressive models under the hierarchical Bayesian setup. To handle large data sets, a recently developed Gaussian predictive process approximation method is extended to include autoregressive terms of latent space–time processes. Specifically, a space–time autoregressive process, supported on a set of a smaller number of knot locations, is spatially interpolated to approximate the original space–time process. The resulting model is specified within a hierarchical Bayesian framework, and Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques are used to make inference. The proposed model is applied for analysing the daily maximum 8‐h average ground level ozone concentration data from 1997 to 2006 from a large study region in the Eastern United States. The developed methods allow accurate spatial prediction of a temporally aggregated ozone summary, known as the primary ozone standard, along with its uncertainty, at any unmonitored location during the study period. Trends in spatial patterns of many features of the posterior predictive distribution of the primary standard, such as the probability of noncompliance with respect to the standard, are obtained and illustrated. The Nyström and degenerate kernel methods, based on projections at Gauss points onto the space of (discontinuous) piecewise polynomials of degree ?r-1, for the approximate solution of eigenvalue problems for an integral operator with a smooth kernel, exhibit order 2r. We propose new superconvergent Nyström and degenerate kernel methods that improve this convergence order to 4r for eigenvalue approximation and to 3r for spectral subspace approximation in the case where the kernel is sufficiently smooth. Moreover for a simple eigenvalue, we show that by using an iteration technique, an eigenvector approximation of order 4r can be obtained. The methods introduced here are similar to that studied by Kulkarni in [10] and exhibit the same convergence orders, so a comparison with these methods is worked out in detail. Also, the error terms are analyzed and the obtained methods are numerically tested. Finally, these methods are extended to the case of discontinuous kernel along the diagonal and superconvergence results are also obtained.  相似文献

Using a 1958 result of Lojasiewicz, we establish an error bound for analytic systems consisting of equalities and inequalities defined by real analytic functions. In particular, we show that over any bounded region, the distance from any vectorx in the region to the solution set of an analytic system is bounded by a residual function, raised to a certain power, evaluated atx. For quadratic systems satisfying certain nonnegativity assumptions, we show that this exponent is equal to 1/2. We apply the error bounds to the Karush—Kuhn—Tucker system of a variational inequality, the affine variational inequality, the linear and nonlinear complementarity problem, and the 0–1 integer feasibility problem, and obtain new error bound results for these problems. A variant of the Nyström method based on Simpson's rule is presented. This is designed to deal with integral operators with kernels k(s, t) that are not continuous along the diagonal s = t.
