ON INTERACTION OF SHOCK AND SOUND WAVE （I）

This paper studies the interaction of shock and gradient wave (sound wave) of solutions to the system of inviscid isentropic gas dynamics as a model for the corresponding problems for nonlinear hyperbolic systems. The problem can be reduced to a boundary value problem in a wedged dormain, By using the method of constructing asymptotic solutions and Newton‘siteration process it is proved that if a weak shock hits a gradient wave, then the grandient wave will split into two gradient waves, while the shock continuses propagating. In this paper the author reduces the problem to a standard form and constructs asymptotic solution of the problem. The existence of the genuine solution will he given in the following paper.     

Analysis of nonlinear sliding structures by modified stochastic linearization methods

Probabilistic characteristics of a sliding structure is investigated by using new versions of stochastic linearization technique. The structure is composed of base part and upper part, which are connected to each other in a spring-damping system. Coulomb friction between the base structure and earth ground is considered. Two alternative versions of stochastic linearization approach, suggested by X. Zhang and I. Elishakoff, respectively, are applied to such a sliding structure to evaluate its statistical properties. Compared with the results of Monte Carlo simulation, the two new approaches are performing much better than the conventional one in their applications to the sliding structure. Moreover, numerical results indicate that the criterion proposed by Elishakoff turns out to be superior to all other versions in the problem under study. Numerical results also suggest that the entire structure may be replaced by the rigid body in the sliding problem as long as the difference of velocity responses are considered less important than those of displacement responses.

A general converse theorem for mean‐value theorems in linear elasticity

We prove a rather general mean‐value formula in the theory of elasticity, which expresses the value of the displacement at the centre of a sphere in terms of certain combinations of integral averages over the sphere itself of the traction and the displacement. We also establish the corresponding converse to this mean‐value formula under minimal smoothness assumptions on the displacement. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

On a new system of nonlinear A-monotone multivalued variational inclusions

In this paper, we introduce and study a new system of nonlinear A-monotone multivalued variational inclusions in Hilbert spaces. By using the concept and properties of A-monotone mappings, and the resolvent operator technique associated with A-monotone mappings due to Verma, we construct a new iterative algorithm for solving this system of nonlinear multivalued variational inclusions associated with A-monotone mappings in Hilbert spaces. We also prove the existence of solutions for the nonlinear multivalued variational inclusions and the convergence of iterative sequences generated by the algorithm. Our results improve and generalize many known corresponding results.     

FULL DISCRETE NONLINEAR GALERKIN METHOD FOR THE NAVIER-STOKES EQUATIONS

This paper deals with the inertial manifold and the approximate inertial manifold concepts of the Navier-Stokes equations with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions and inertial algorithm. Furtheremore, we provide the error estimates of the approximate solutions of the Navier-Stokes Equations.     

Long-range predictive adaptive fuzzy relational control

A class of long-range predictive adaptive fuzzy relational controllers is presented. The plant behavior is described over an extended time horizon by a fuzzy relational model which is identified based on input-output closed-loop observations of the plant variables. In this class of adaptive controllers the control law attempts to minimize a quadratic cost over an extended control horizon. When used with linear models, this approach has revealed a significant potential for overcoming the limitations of one-step ahead schemes, such as the stabilization of non-minimum phase plants. Here, a uniform framework is adopted for implementing both the fuzzy model and the fuzzy controller, namely distributed fuzzy relational structures gaining from their massive parallel processing features and from the learning capabilities typical of the connectivist approaches. Issues such as maintenance during the adaptation process of the meaning of linguistic terms used at both fuzzy systems interfaces are addressed, namely by introducing a new design methodology for on-line fuzzy systems interface adaptation. The examples presented reinforce the claim of the usefulness of this new approach.

Nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with Neumann boundary condition

We study Neumann problem for a class of nonlinear degenerate parabolic PDE. A typical nonlinearity we have in mind is, for instance, β(u)=−1/u(u>0). We establish a necessary and sufficient condition on given data for existence of solution.
