The study of exchange coupling in NiFe/Cu/IrMn trilayer structures by MOKE and FMR measurements

The exchange coupling strength of NiFe/Cu/IrMn trilayer films was examined with both a new magneto optical Kerr effect (MOKE) method developed for the exchange coupling field determination and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) measurements. We found that the value for exchange coupling field obtained by the MOKE technique coincided with FMR result with high accuracy. Other peculiarities of FMR measurements due to interlayer exchange coupling such as angular dependence of resonance field on Cu spacer thickness are also shown in the article.

We prove the iteration lemmata, which are the key lemmata to show that extensions by Pmax variations satisfy absoluteness for Π₂-statements in the structure 〈H (ω ₂), ∈, NS_{ω 1}, R 〉 for some set R of reals in L (ℝ), for the following statements: (1) The cofinality of the null ideal is ℵ₁. Properties of Josephson junctions in the inhomogeneous magnetic field of a system of ferromagnetic particles

The effect of an array of ferromagnetic nanoparticles on the field-dependent critical current of the short overlap Josephson junction is experimentally studied. Large reversible variations of the maximum critical current are observed depending on the magnetic state of the particles. The pronounced commensurability effects are detected which are proved by the additional peaks of magnetic field induced diffraction pattern.     

On existence of solutions for some hyperbolic-parabolic-type chemotaxis systems

In this paper, we discuss the local and global existence ofweak solutions for some hyperbolic–parabolic systems modellingchemotaxis.     

Calculus of functors and model categories

The category of small covariant functors from simplicial sets to simplicial sets supports the projective model structure [B. Chorny, W.G. Dwyer, Homotopy theory of small diagrams over large categories, preprint, 2005]. In this paper we construct various localizations of the projective model structure and also give a variant for functors from simplicial sets to spectra. We apply these model categories in the study of calculus of functors, namely for a classification of polynomial and homogeneous functors. In the n-homogeneous model structure, the nth derivative is a Quillen functor to the category of spectra with Σn-action. After taking into account only finitary functors—which may be done in two different ways—the above Quillen map becomes a Quillen equivalence. This improves the classification of finitary homogeneous functors by T.G. Goodwillie [T.G. Goodwillie, Calculus. III. Taylor series, Geom. Topol. 7 (2003) 645-711 (electronic)].     

Sensitivity of hypersaline Arabian Gulf to seawater desalination plants

Due to the hot, arid nature of its bordering lands, seawater in the Arabian Gulf can have significant evaporation rates leading to hypersaline conditions. If additional desalination plants were to operate along its coast, then the extraction of desalinated water and returned brine waste stream into the Gulf would increase the salinity. This paper uses a tidally and cross-sectionally averaged mathematical model that reveals multiplicative dependence of the salinity on factors associated with river flow, evaporation rates and each of the desalination plants. Present-day desalinated water production rates are in the linear regime, but hypersalinity has exponential sensitivity to the position and volumetric rate of desalinated water extraction.     

Optimal Investment Strategies for an Insurer with SAHARA Utility

In this paper, we consider the optimal investment strategy which maximizes the utility of the terminal wealth of an insurer with SAHARA utility functions. This class of utility functions has non-monotone absolute risk aversion, which is more flexible than the CARA and CRRA utility functions. In the case that the risk process is modeled as a Brownian motion and the stock process is modeled as a geometric Brownian motion, we get the closed-form solutions for our problem by the martingale method for both the constant threshold and when the threshold evolves dynamically according to a specific process. Finally, we show that the optimal strategy is state-dependent.     

Silicon etching in Cl2 environment

The ion-beam-assisted etching of silicon in Cl₂ environment is considered. The theoretically calculated dependences of silicon etching rate on the flux of Cl₂ molecules at different ion current densities are compared with experimentally measured. The composition of the adsorbed layer is determined. It is found that SiCl₂ molecules prevail in the adsorbed layer. The reciprocal of relative concentration of SiCl₂ molecules in the adsorbed layer linearly depends on the ion-to-neutral flux ratio.     

The effect of surface crystalline layers on asymmetric off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed CoFeSiB amorphous ribbons

The off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed CoFeSiB amorphous ribbons was measured using a pick-up coil wound around the sample. One side of a ribbon was etched in hydrofluoric acid solution during various times in order to change the thickness of the surface crystalline layer appearing after annealing. The asymmetric two-peak field dependence of the off-diagonal impedance was observed for all samples. The evolution of the off-diagonal magnetoimpedance with the change in the ribbon thickness is analyzed.
