Equilibrium theory for the hard-core systems

It is found that the density expansion in the argument of the exponential function gives a fine convergence on the equation of state of the hard-sphere system. The pair distribution function and the equation of state is constructed by an intuitive kinetic theoretical method. The equation of state of the hard-core system with attractive potential is constructed semiempirically with the aid of this simple analytical result, and Kamerling-Onnes' constant of the critical point is obtained analytically.

Higher-order Nonlinear System of Equations of Changing Type

In practical problems there appears higher-order equations of changing type([1]). But, there are only a few of papers concerning this type of equations ([2]-[6]). In this paper, the global existence of regular solutions to the Initial-boundary value problem for a class of higher-order system of equations of changing type with a strong nonlinear term is studied.     

Near-optimal design of Global Positioning System (GPS) networks using the Tabu Search technique

This paper describes an optimization technique based on an heuristic procedure which is applied to analyse and improve the efficiency of the design of Global Positioning System (GPS) surveying networks. GPS is a valuable survey tool because of its ability to increase the accuracy, speed and flexibility of a survey. A GPS network can be defined as a number of stations, which are co-ordinated by a series of sessions, formed by placing receivers on stations. The goal is to select the best order in which these sessions can be organised to give the best possible schedule. Generally, solving large networks to optimality requires impractical computational time. This paper proposes a Tabu Search technique which provides optimal or near-optimal solutions for large networks with an acceptable amount of computational effort. Computational results for several case studies with known and unknown optimal schedules have been presented to assess the performance of the proposed technique.

The construction of the sum of a direct (semilattice ordered) system of algebras introduced by J. Plonka – later known as the Plonka sum – is one of the most important methods of composition in universal algebra, having a number of applications in different algebraic theories, such as semigroup theory, semiring theory, etc. In this paper we present a more general way for constructing algebras with involution, that is, algebraic systems equipped with a unary involutorial operation which is at the same time an antiautomorphism of the underlying algebra. It is the sum – involutorial Plonka sum, as we call it – of an involution semilattice ordered system of algebras. We investigate its basic properties, as well as the problem of its subdirect decomposition.     

Nonlinear Diffusion Processes

We study elliptic systems of strongly nonlinear first-order differential equations in complex form on the plane. For such systems we develop the theory of Hilbert boundary value problems which is very much similar to the well-known theory for a holomorphic vector. Systems of nonlinear elliptic equations describe problems of interaction of several nonlinear stationary processes in the diffusive and convective mass and heat transport by hydrodynamic fluid flows.     

Political and economic rationality leads to velcro bifurcation

In this paper political and economic rationality is modelled regarding an economic problem with a four-dimensional dynamical system taking into consideration the information about the problem spread among the people who support the political alternatives. Under special parameter conditions velcro bifurcation occurs, which destabilizes the equilibrium points when information is going to spread. The last stable equilibrium point is related to the economically rational equilibrium point.     

Stability analysis of impulsive control systems

This paper studies impulsive control systems. Several stability criteria are established by employing the method of Lyapunov functions. These criteria may be used for impulsive feedback control design. As an application, impulsive control of the Lorenz chaotic system is discussed. Numerical experiments are carried out for the control of the Lorenz system. It is shown that small and frequent impulses need to be used in order to stabilize the Lorenz system.
