Enhanced visible-light-driven photodegradation of Acid Orange 7 azo dye in aqueous solution using Fe-N co-doped TiO2

FeN -co-doped TiO₂ photocatalysts are prepared by sol–gel method using titanium tetraisopropoxide, urea and iron(II) acetylacetonate as precursors of titania, nitrogen and iron, respectively. The prepared samples are analysed from chemical-physical point of view by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–Vis DRS), specific surface area measurements and scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). UV–Vis DRS spectra evidence that the co-doping of TiO₂ with N and Fe leads to the narrowing of the band gap value (2.7 eV) with respect to Fe-doped TiO₂ (2.8 eV) and N-doped TiO₂ (2.9–3 eV). XRD patterns show that photocatalysts are mainly in anatase phase and Fe and N ions are successfully incorporated into the TiO₂ lattice. The average crystallite size of Fe-N co-doped TiO₂ is slightly lower than the other samples and equal to about 7 nm and the specific surface area of the co-doped sample results to be 117 m² g⁻¹. Photocatalytic performances of all prepared samples are evaluated by analysing the degradation of Acid Orange 7 azo dye under visible light irradiation. Photocatalytic efficiency obtained using FeN co-doped TiO₂ strongly increases compared to undoped TiO₂, N-doped TiO₂ and Fe-doped TiO₂ photocatalysts. In detail, using the co-doped photocatalyst, dye discoloration and mineralization result equal to about 90 and 83% after 60 min of LEDs visible light irradiation, underlining the best performances of the FeN co-doped TiO₂ photocatalyst both in terms of treatment time and electric energy consumption.

利用Sol-Gel方法投篮了单分散性很好的球型二氧化硅纳米颗粒，通过表面化 学修饰法引入了带有荧光发色团的有机分子，通过稳态光物理方法研究了纳米颗粒 表面的有机分子在水、乙醇以及阴、阳离子表面活性剂悬浮液中的光物理行为。实 验表明，纳米颗粒表面有机分子的分散状态是决定其光物理行为的主要因素。这一 结果为设计和开发新型“壳-核”型纳米二氧化硅荧光传感器提供了有用的参考。     

Parallelization of three-center electron repulsion integrals

The parallelization of the three-center electron repulsion integrals arising from the variational fitting of the Coulomb potential is presented. A scheme for dynamical load balancing of the corresponding loop structure is discussed. The implementation in the density functional theory program deMon using the message passing interface is described. The efficiency of the parallelization is analyzed by selected benchmark calculations     

Improved quantification limits in chiral capillary electrochromatography by peak compression effects

The peak compression effect has been applied to improve quantification limits in chiral capillary electrochromatography (CEC). A stationary phase based on the chiral selector vancomycin (Chirobiotic V) was used for separations of the enantiomers of mianserin. By adding solvents with a low dielectric constant, e.g. 2-propanol or tetrahydrofuran, to the sample solution, peak compression could be induced. The plate numbers for the minor enantiomer increased from approximately 100,000 to 1.4-1.6 million plates/m, when the composition of the mobile phase was adjusted so that the analyte eluted within either one of two system zones originating from the sample solution. A 10-fold improvement in the quantification limit for the minor enantiomer was obtained compared to elution under non-focused conditions.     

Preparation and properties of sclerotium rolfsii invertase immobilized on indion 48-R

Crude extracellular invertase fromSclerotium rolfsii, when coupled to glutaraldehyde activated Indion 48-R, retained 70–80% activity of the soluble enzyme. Immobilization resulted in a decrease in the pH and temperature optima but it increased the temperature stability. K_m and V_max also increased as a result of immobilization. Both soluble and immobilized invertase showed inhibition at high substrate concentrations. The bound enzyme showed excellent stability to repeated use and retained approx 90% of its initial activity after 8 cycles of use.

Covering with blocks in the non-symmetric case

Considering an infinite string of i.i.d. random letters drawn from a finite alphabet we define the cover timeW _n as the number of random letters needed until each pattern of lenghtn appears at least once as a substring. Sharp weak and a.s. limit results onW _n are known in the symmetric case, i.e., when the random letters are uniformly distributed over the alphabet. In this paper we determine the limit distribution ofW _n in the nonsymmetric case asn. Generalizations in terms of point processes are also proved.Dedicated to Endre Csáki on his 60th birthday.
