A posteriori error estimates for a time discrete scheme for a phase-field system of Penrose-Fife type

A time discrete scheme is used to approximate the solution toa phase field system of Penrose–Fife type with a non-conservedorder parameter. An a posteriori error estimate is presentedthat allows the estimation of the difference between continuousand semidiscrete solutions by quantities that can be calculatedfrom the approximation and given data.     

CONVERGENCE OF CASCADE ALGORITHMS AND SMOOTHNESS OF REFINABLE DISTRIBUTIONS

In this paper, the author at first develops a method to study convergence of the cascade algorithm in a Banach space without stable assumption on the initial (see Theorem 2.1), and then applies the previous result on the convergence to characterizing compactly supported refinable distributions in fractional Sobolev spaces and Holder continuous spaces (see Theorems 3.1, 3.3, and 3.4). Finally the author applies the above characterization to choosing appropriate initial to guarantee the convergence of the cascade algorithm (see Theorem 4.2).     

A remark on divisibility of definable groups

We show that if G is a definably compact, definably connected definable group defined in an arbitrary o‐minimal structure, then G is divisible. Furthermore, if G is defined in an o‐minimal expansion of a field, k ∈ ? and p_k : G → G is the definable map given by p_k (x ) = x^k for all x ∈ G , then we have |(p_k )^–1(x )| ≥ k^r for all x ∈ G , where r > 0 is the maximal dimension of abelian definable subgroups of G . On computation of the greatest common divisor of several polynomials over a finite field

We propose a probabilistic algorithm to reduce computing the greatest common divisor of m polynomials over a finite field (which requires computing m−1 pairwise greatest common divisors) to computing the greatest common divisor of two polynomials over the same field.     

On the spectral norm of algebraic numbers

In this paper we continue to study the spectral norms and their completions ([4]) in the case of the algebraic closure $ \overline {\mathbb Q} $ of ? in ?. Let $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $ be the completion of $ \overline {\mathbb Q} $ relative to the spectral norm. We prove that $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $ can be identified with the R‐subalgebra of all symmetric functions of C(G), where C(G) denotes the ?‐Banach algebra of all continuous functions defined on the absolute Galois group G = Gal$ {\overline {\mathbb Q}} / {\mathbb Q} $. We prove that any compact, closed to conjugation subset of ? is the pseudo‐orbit of a suitable element of $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $. We also prove that the topological closure of any algebraic number field in $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $ is of the form $\widetilde{\mathbb{Q}[x]}$ with x in $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $.     

Ultrasonic spectroscopic evaluation of the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of dicyclopentadiene

An in situ ultrasonic spectroscopy technique was used to study the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of dicyclopentadiene catalyzed by bis(tricyclohexylphosphine)benzylidene ruthenium dichloride. A reaction cell employing a flexible poly(ethylene terephthalate) window for pulse echo ultrasonic spectroscopy was used to monitor the polymerization. The changes in the density, wave speed, acoustic modulus, and attenuation were all simultaneously monitored. In comparison with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy data, the changes in the density, velocity, and modulus only accurately measured the rate constant for the metathesis of the cyclopentyl unsaturation. The ultrasonic values were within 6% of the values determined by FTIR. The activation energy for metathesis of the cyclopentyl unsaturation was 84 kJ mol^?1, following first‐order kinetics. Rate constants for the polymerization of the norbornyl unsaturation could not be determined by ultrasound. The gel point, vitrification, and qualitative information about the reaction rate could be determined from the change in the attenuation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ASYMPTOTIC NORMALITY OF KERNEL ESTIMATES OF A DENSITY FUNCTION UNDER ASSOCIATION DEPENDENCE

Rhythmic growth of ring‐banded spherulites in blends of liquid crystalline methoxy‐poly(aryl ether ketone) and poly(aryl ether ether ketone)

Rhythmic growth of ring‐banded spherulites in blends of liquid crystalline methoxy‐poly(aryl ether ketone) (M‐PAEK) and poly(aryl ether ether ketone) (PEEK) has been investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized light microscopy (PLM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The measurements reveal that the formation of the rhythmically grown ring‐banded spherulites in the M‐PAEK/PEEK blends is strongly dependent on the blend composition. In the M‐PAEK‐rich blends, upon cooling, an unusual ring‐banded spherulite is formed, which is ascribed to structural discontinuity caused by a rhythmic radial growth. For the 50:50 M‐PAEK/PEEK blend, ring‐banded spherulites and individual PEEK spherulites coexist in the system. In the blends with PEEK as the predominant component, M‐PAEK is rejected into the boundary of PEEK spherulites. The cooling rate and crystallization temperature have great effect on the phase behavior, especially the ring‐banded spherulite formation in the blends. In addition, the effects of M‐PAEK phase transition rate and phase separation rate on banded spherulite formation is discussed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ON THE PRODUCT OF GATEAUX DIFFERENTIABILITY LOCALLY CONVEX SPACES

A locally convex space is said to be a Gateaux differentiability space (GDS)provided every continuous convex function defined on a nonempty convex open subset D of the space is densely Gateaux differentiable in D.This paper shows that the product of a GDS and a family of separable Frechet spaces is a GDS,and that the product of a GDS and an arbitrary locally convex space endowed with the weak topology is a GDS.     

多结超导环在外磁场中的行为

分析和计算了双结超导环在无偏置电流时的磁通、环流、自由能与外磁场的关系.发现双结环与单结环在磁场中的行为有所不同.当两个结的Ic相等时，双结环在1＜β=2πLIcΦ0＜2时，若无偏置电流，总磁通Φ、环流I与外磁通Φe的关系仍然是非回滞的曲线.仅当β≥2时，曲线才出现回滞.另外双结环有两支解，并且每支解的周期为2Φ0. 关键词： 双结环 双支解 2Φ0周期 回滞
