We create a new, functional calculus, approach to approximation formulas for C0C0-semigroups on Banach spaces restricted to the domains of fractional powers of their generators. This approach allows us to equip the approximation formulas with rates which appear to be optimal in a natural sense. In the case of analytic semigroups, we improve our general results obtaining better convergence rates which are optimal in that case too. The setting of analytic semigroups includes also the case of convergence on the whole space. As an illustration of our approach, we deduce optimal convergence rates in classical approximation formulas for C0C0-semigroups restricted to the domains of fractional powers of their generators.  相似文献

In 1994, M.M. Popov [6] showed that the fundamental theorem of calculus fails, in general, for functions mapping from a compact interval of the real line into the ?p?p-spaces for 0<p<10<p<1, and the question arose whether such a significant result might hold in some other non-Banach spaces. In this article we completely settle the problem by proving that the fundamental theorem of calculus breaks down in the context of any non-locally convex quasi-Banach space. Our approach introduces the tool of Riemann-integral averages of continuous functions, and uses it to bring out to light the differences in behavior of their approximates in the lack of local convexity. As a by-product of our work we solve a problem raised in [1] on the different types of spaces of differentiable functions with values on a quasi-Banach space.  相似文献

This article is devoted to the regular fractional Sturm–Liouville eigenvalue problem. By applying the methods of fractional variational analysis, we prove the existence of a countable set of orthogonal solutions and corresponding eigenvalues. Moreover, we formulate two results showing that the lowest eigenvalue is the minimum value for a certain variational functional.  相似文献

We compute explicit upper bounds on the distance between the law of a multivariate Gaussian distribution and the joint law of wavelet/needlet coefficients based on a homogeneous spherical Poisson field. In particular, we develop some results from Peccati and Zheng (2010) [42], based on Malliavin calculus and Stein’s methods, to assess the rate of convergence to Gaussianity for a triangular array of needlet coefficients with growing dimensions. Our results are motivated by astrophysical and cosmological applications, in particular related to the search for point sources in Cosmic Rays data.  相似文献

We define Wiener integral, we develop a suitable formalism for stochastic calculus of variations and we make Gaussian assumptions only when necessary. We investigate general Shapiro-Lopatinsky elliptic boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends. This is accomplished by compactifying such a manifold to a manifold with corners of in general higher codimension, and we then deal with boundary value problems for cusp differential operators. We introduce an adapted Boutet de Monvel's calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems, and construct parametrices for elliptic cusp operators within this calculus. Fredholm solvability and elliptic regularity up to the boundary and up to infinity for boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends follows.  相似文献

We consider the problem of determining an optimal goodwill path for the introduction of a new product in a market, while looking for the maximum foreseen profit. The foreseen revenue depends on the product introduction time and on the goodwill level at the same time. We focus on the advertising costs associated with the goodwill evolution and assume that the cost function possesses some rather general features which are shared by the cost functions of the Nerlove-Arrow type models. The dynamic optimization problem is discussed in the calculus of variations framework. A few examples associated with special cost functions are discussed in detail.  相似文献
