Existence analysis of an optimal shape design problem with non coercive state equation

In this paper, a shape optimization problem, modelling a welding process, governed by a second order non coercive PDE is considered. The well posedness of the shape optimal design problem is showed using the degree of Leray–Schauder. Then the existence of an optimal solution is proved.     

On local strong solutions to the Cauchy problem of the two-dimensional full compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with vacuum and zero heat conduction

This paper concerns the Cauchy problem of the two-dimensional full compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with zero heat-conduction and vacuum as far field density. In particular, the initial density can have compact support. We prove that the Cauchy problem admits a local strong solution provided both the initial density and the initial magnetic field decay not too slow at infinity.     

The single-item newsboy problem with dual performance measures and quantity discounts

This paper considers models for the single-item newsboy problem with quantity discount and the following dual performance measure: “maximize the expected profit subject to a constraint that the probability of achieving a target profit level is no less than a predetermined risk level.” We also consider two types of quantity discount: all-unit and incremental. For our models with zero shortage cost, a closed-form solution for determining the optimal order quantity is derived. However, models with positive shortage cost can only be solved numerically.     

Elliptic Interface Problems in Axisymmetric Domains. Part I: Singular Functions of Non - Tensorial Type

We study the regularity of solutions of interface problems for the Poisson equation in axisynunetric domains. The Fourier decomposition of the 3D-problem into a sequence of 2D-variational equations end uniform (with respect to the sequence parameter) a prior; estimates of their solutions are derived. Some non-tensorial singular functions describing the behaviour of the solution near interface edges are given and the smoothness of the stress intensity distribution as well as the tangential regularity are characterized in tenns of Sobolev spaces. In a forthcoming part II of this paper, the results will be applied to error estimates of the so-called Fourier-finite-element method for solving approximately elliptic interface problems in 3D.     

Galerkin method for a Stefan-type problem in one space dimension

Based on a Landau-type transformation, both continuous and discrete in time L²-Galerkin methods are applied to a single-phase Stefan-type problem in one space dimension. Optimal rates of convergence in L^ℵ, L^∞, and H¹-norms are derived and computational results are presented. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
