ABSTRACTThe orientation control of liquid crystal (LC) phases is essential for fundamental studies as well as practical applications. Surface treatment and topographic confinement have emerged as two of the most effective tools to control ordering and orientation of various types of LC phases. This review is intended to give an overview of the LC phases controlled in confined geometries at micro- and nanometre scales, in which the orientation control methods and the effective analytical techniques will be covered. The structure information of orientation and packing of molecular chains can be obtained from infrared transmission and reflection-absorbance (RA) spectra. In the present paper, on the basis of Umemura et al., their FORTRAN program of minicomputer was developed and can be run on 486 personal computer. By comparison of infrared transmission and RA intensities, surface enhancement factors and molecular orientation angle were calculated using the above program, and the influence of complex refractive index, angle of incidence, and thickness of LB film were discussed. AFM结果表明, 在200 nm或更厚的薄膜中, PCL主要以侧立(edge-on)片晶的方式生长; 对于厚度小于200 nm的薄膜, PCL片晶更倾向于以平躺(flat-on)的方式生长. 这种片晶生长方式的改变在硅片和铝箔基板上都表现出同样的倾向. 此外, 在15 nm或更薄的薄膜中, PCL结晶由通常的球晶结构变为树枝状晶体. 偏光ATR-FTIR结果表明, 当膜厚小于200 nm时, 薄膜结晶中PCL分子链沿垂直于基板表面方向取向, 并且膜越薄, 取向程度越高, 与AFM的观测结果一致. 相似文献

Summary: The effect of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) molecular weight on the orientation of crystalline PCL in miscible poly(ε‐caprolactone)/poly(vinyl chloride) (PCL/PVC) blends, melt crystallized under strain, has been studied by a combination of wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) studies. An unusual crystal orientation with the b‐axis parallel to the stretching direction was observed in miscible PCL/PVC blends with PCL of high molecular weight (>21 000). SAXS showed the presence of nanosize confined PCL in the PCL/PVC blends, which could be preserved at temperatures higher than the Tm of PCL but lower than the Tg of PVC. A mechanism based on the confinement of PCL crystal growth was proposed, which can explain the formation of b‐axis orientation in PCL/PVC blends crystallized under strain.

Highly (110)-oriented Ba0.65Sr0.35TiO3 films were deposited on Pt/LaNiO3/SiO2/Si substrates by a sol–gel method. It was found that the (110)-preferred Pt film was very effective for growing (110)-oriented
ferroelectric films with perovskite structure. The as-grown Ba0.65Sr0.35TiO3 films showed good dielectric properties with dielectric constant and loss tangent tan δ = 0.026. Excellent dielectric tunability was also achieved in the (110)-oriented films. With applying
an electric field of 230 kV/cm at 100 kHz, the dielectric tunability and the figure of merit can reach up to 63.4% and 16,
respectively. These results indicate that the highly (110)-oriented Ba0.65Sr0.35TiO3 film is a promising candidate for the applications in microwave tunable devices. 相似文献
