On the limitations of the equation of state based on the Lennard-Jones potential

It is emphasized that any equation of state (EOS) based on the generalized Lennard-Jones potential or the Mie potential, suffers from two main shortcomings as pointed out by Stacey and Davis [2]. One of the shortcomings viz. the problem related to imaginary numbers for the exponents in the potential function, has been removed recently by Jiuxun [11] by using a relationship between the exponents. However, the modified EOS obtained by Jiuxun suffers from the second shortcoming viz. it gives lower values for −B ₀ B″₀, an important equation of state parameter related to the second pressure derivative of the bulk modulus. Values of B ₀ B″₀ obtained by Jiuxun are not consistent with those reported by Stacey and Davis.      

The effect of the slip condition on flows of an Oldroyd 6-constant fluid

The steady flows of a non-Newtonian fluid are considered when the slippage between the plate and the fluid is valid. The constitutive equations of the fluid are modeled by those for an Oldroyd 6-constant fluid. They give rise to non-linear boundary value problems. The analytical solutions are obtained using powerful, easy-to-use analytic technique for non-linear problems, the homotopy analysis method. It is shown that solutions exist for all values of non-Newtonian parameters. The solutions valid for no-slip condition for all values of non-Newtonian parameters can be derived as the special cases of the present analysis. Finally, graphs are plotted and critical assessment is made for the cases of slip and no-slip conditions.

A new family of iterative methods for solving system of nonlinear algebric equations

Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is applied to construct a new iterative method for solving system of nonlinear algebric equations. Comparison of the result obtained by the present method with that obtained by revised Adomian decomposition method [Hossein Jafari, Varsha Daftardar-Gejji, Appl. Math. Comput. 175 (2006) 1–7] reveals that the accuracy and fast convergence of the new method.

一个扩散问题的自然边界元法与有限元法组合

本文讨论由Helmholtz方程描述的扩散问题的自然边界元法与有限元法的组合．取一个圆作为公共边界，用Fourier展开建立边界积分方程，将无界区域上的问题化为有界区域上的非局部边值问题．在变分方程中公共边界上的未知量只包含函数本身而不包含其法向导数，从而减少了未知数的数目，并且边界元剐度矩阵只有极少量不同的元素，有利于数值计算．这种组台方法优越于建立在直接边界元法基础上的组合方法．文中证明了变分解的唯一性，数值解的收敛性和误差估计．最后讨论了数值技术并给出一个算倒．     

The Polarographic Reductions of 4-Cyano-3-Substitutedsydnones
