The solutions of the dfferential equation Lnx + a0(t)x = 0, where Ln is a disconjugate operator and a0 is of one sign, are studied according to their behavior as t → ∞. We prove equivalence theorems between solutions of this equation and its adjoint in terms of property A and property B. These theorems generalize the results known for n = 3 and for odd order binomial equations. Some applications are given too.  相似文献

In the present paper we provide a broad survey of the regularity theory for non-differentiable higher order parabolic systems of the type
Initially, we prove a partial regularity result with the method of A-polycaloric approximation, which is a parabolic analogue of the harmonic approximation lemma of De Giorgi. Moreover, we prove better estimates for the maximal parabolic Hausdorff-dimension of the singular set of weak solutions, using fractional parabolic Sobolev spaces. This paper first presents a characterization of three classes of negligible closed convex sets (i.e., Gauss null sets, Aronszajn null sets and cube null sets) in terms of non-support points; then gives a generalization of Gâteaux differentiability theorems of Lipschitz mapping from open sets to those closed convex sets admitting non-support points; and as their application, finally shows that a closed convex set in a separable Banach space X can be Lipschitz embedded into a Banach space Y with the Radon–Nikodym property if and only if the closure of its linear span is linearly isomorphic to a closed subspace of Y.  相似文献

We consider a damped sine-Gordon equation with a variable diffusion coefficient. The goal is to derive necessary conditions for the optimal set of parameters minimizing the objective function J. First, we show that the solution map is continuous under a weak assumption on the topology of the admissible set P. Then the solution map is shown to be weakly Gâteux differentiable on P, implying the Gâteux differentiability of the objective function. Finally we show the Fréchet differentiability of J. The control of convective heat transfer from a heated circular cylinder immersed in an electrically conducting fluid is achieved using an externally imposed magnetic field. A Higher Order Compact Scheme (HOCS) is used to solve the governing energy equation in cylindrical polar coordinates. The HOCS gives fourth order accurate results for the temperature field. The behavior of local Nusselt number, mean Nusselt number and temperature field due to variation in the aligned magnetic field is evaluated for the parameters 5≤$Re$≤40, 0≤$N$≤20 and 0.065≤$Pr$≤7. It is found that the convective heat transfer is suppressed by increasing the strength of the imposed magnetic field until a critical value of $N$, the interaction parameter, beyond which the heat transfer increases with further increase in $N$. The results are found to be in good agreement with recent experimental studies.  相似文献
