Generalized Hyers-Ulam stability for general additive functional equations in quasi-β-normed spaces

In 1940 S.M. Ulam proposed the famous Ulam stability problem. In 1941 D.H. Hyers solved the well-known Ulam stability problem for additive mappings subject to the Hyers condition on approximately additive mappings. The first author of this paper investigated the Hyers-Ulam stability of Cauchy and Jensen type additive mappings. In this paper we generalize results obtained for Jensen type mappings and establish new theorems about the Hyers-Ulam stability for general additive functional equations in quasi-β-normed spaces.     

A common fixed point theorem for compatible quasi contractive self mappings in metric spaces

A common fixed point theorem for weakly commuting quasi contractive self mappings with contracting orbital diameters in metric spaces [V. Berinde, A common fixed point theorem for quasi contractive type mappings, Ann. Univ. Sci. Budapest. 46 (2003) 81-90] is extended to the more general class of compatible quasi contractive self mappings. Our result does extend and generalize numerous related results in literature.     

Canonical form of a nonlinear monetary system

This paper addresses an autonomous system of quadratic ordinary differential equations, which describes a monetary system involving interest rate, investment demand and price index. The canonical form of this system is derived, which is dependent on a single parameter. On this basis, it is proved that this system is not smoothly equivalent to the generalized Lorenz canonical form.     

Approximating fixed points of a pair of contractive type mappings in generalized convex metric spaces

In this paper, we consider an Ishikawa type iteration process with errors, which converges to the unique common fixed point of a pair of contractive type mappings in complete generalized convex metric spaces. Furthermore, we obtain the corresponding results in Banach spaces. Our results extend and generalize many known results.     

On an equivalence of topological vector space valued cone metric spaces and metric spaces

Scalarization method is an important tool in the study of vector optimization as corresponding solutions of vector optimization problems can be found by solving scalar optimization problems. Recently this has been applied by Du (2010) [14] to investigate the equivalence of vectorial versions of fixed point theorems of contractive mappings in generalized cone metric spaces and scalar versions of fixed point theorems in general metric spaces in usual sense. In this paper, we find out that the topology induced by topological vector space valued cone metric coincides with the topology induced by the metric obtained via a nonlinear scalarization function, i.e any topological vector space valued cone metric space is metrizable, prove a completion theorem, and also obtain some more results in topological vector space valued cone normed spaces.     

Generalized projective synchronization of a class of hyperchaotic systems based on state observer

In this paper, the generalized projective synchronization of a class of hyperchaotic systems is studied. On the basis of the state observer, it is not necessary to calculate the Lyapunov exponents, which makes this scheme simpler. Hyperchaotic Lü system and hyperchaotic Rössler systems are used as examples to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.     

On geodesic mappings of equidistant generalized Riemannian spaces

In this paper geodesic mappings of equidistant generalized Riemannian spaces are discussed. It is proved that each equidistant generalized Riemannian space of basic type admits non-trivial geodesic mapping with preserved equidistant congruence. Especially, there exists non-trivial geodesic mapping of equidistant generalized Riemannian space onto equidistant Riemannian space. An example of geodesic mapping of an equidistant generalized Riemannian spaces is presented.     

Fast solving of weighted pairing least-squares systems

This paper presents a generalization of the “weighted least-squares” (WLS), named “weighted pairing least-squares” (WPLS), which uses a rectangular weight matrix and is suitable for data alignment problems. Two fast solving methods, suitable for solving full rank systems as well as rank deficient systems, are studied. Computational experiments clearly show that the best method, in terms of speed, accuracy, and numerical stability, is based on a special {1, 2, 3}-inverse, whose computation reduces to a very simple generalization of the usual “Cholesky factorization-backward substitution” method for solving linear systems.     

A new class of Ornstein transformations with singular spectrum

It is shown that for any family of probability measures in Ornstein type constructions, the corresponding transformation has almost surely a singular spectrum. This is a new generalization of Bourgain's theorem [J. Bourgain, On the spectral type of Ornstein class one transformations, Israel J. Math. 84 (1993) 53–63], same result is proved for Rudolph's construction [D. Rudolph, An example of a measure-preserving map with minimal self-joining and applications, J. Anal. Math. 35 (1979) 97–122].
