Twisted exponents and twisted Frobenius–Schur indicators for Hopf algebras

Classically, the exponent of a group is the least common multiple of the orders of its elements. This notion was generalized by Etingof and Gelaki to Hopf algebras. Kashina, Sommerhäuser, and Zhu later observed that there is a strong connection between exponents and Frobenius–Schur indicators. In this article, we introduce the notion of twisted exponents and show there is a similar relationship between the twisted exponent and the twisted Frobenius–Schur indicators defined in previous work of the authors. In particular, we exhibit a new formula for the twisted indicators and use it to prove periodicity and rationality statements.     

Rough norms in spaces of operators

We investigate sufficient and necessary conditions for the space of bounded linear operators between two Banach spaces to be rough or average rough. Our main result is that is δ‐average rough whenever is δ‐average rough and Y is alternatively octahedral. This allows us to give a unified improvement of two theorems by Becerra Guerrero, López‐Pérez, and Rueda Zoca [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 427 (2015)].     

A new blowup criterion for strong solutions to the three‐dimensional compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with vacuum in a bounded domain

In this paper, we establish a new blowup criterions for the strong solution to the Dirichlet problem of the three‐dimensional compressible MHD system with vacuum. Specifically, we obtain the blowup criterion in terms of the concentration of density in BMO norm or the concentration of the integrability of the magnetic field at the first singular time. The BMO‐type estimate for the Lam system 2.6 and a variant of the Brezis‐Waigner's inequality 2.3 play a critical role in the proof. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Some inequalities involving upper bounds for some matrix operators I

In this paper we consider the problem of finding upper bounds of certain matrix operators such as Hausdorff, Nörlund matrix, weighted mean and summability on sequence spaces l _p(w) and Lorentz sequence spaces d(w, p), which was recently considered in [9] and [10] and similarly to [14] by Josip Pecaric, Ivan Peric and Rajko Roki. Also, this study is an extension of some works by G. Bennett on l _p spaces, see [1] and [2].     

Best uniform approximation to a class of rational functions

We explicitly determine the best uniform polynomial approximation to a class of rational functions of the form 1/²(x−c)+K(a,b,c,n)/(x−c) on [a,b] represented by their Chebyshev expansion, where a, b, and c are real numbers, n−1 denotes the degree of the best approximating polynomial, and K is a constant determined by a, b, c, and n. Our result is based on the explicit determination of a phase angle η in the representation of the approximation error by a trigonometric function. Moreover, we formulate an ansatz which offers a heuristic strategies to determine the best approximating polynomial to a function represented by its Chebyshev expansion. Combined with the phase angle method, this ansatz can be used to find the best uniform approximation to some more functions.     

Composition operators on uniform algebras, essential norms, and hyperbolically bounded sets

Let be a uniform algebra, and let be a self-map of the spectrum of that induces a composition operator on . The object of this paper is to relate the notion of ``hyperbolic boundedness' introduced by the authors in 2004 to the essential spectrum of . It is shown that the essential spectral radius of is strictly less than if and only if the image of under some iterate of is hyperbolically bounded. The set of composition operators is partitioned into ``hyperbolic vicinities" that are clopen with respect to the essential operator norm. This partition is related to the analogous partition with respect to the uniform operator norm.
