Measuring persistence in a stationary time series using the complex network theory

A growing interest exists currently in the analysis of time series by the complex network theory. Here we present a simple and quick way for mapping time series to complex networks. Using a simple rule allows us to transform time series into a textual sequence then we divide it into words with fixed size. Distinct words are nodes of the network, and we have complete control on the network scale by adjusting the word size. Two nodes are linked if their associated words co-occur in sequence. We show that the network topological measures quantify the persistence and the long range correlations in fractional Brownian processes. For a particular word size we assume some relations between the topological measures and the Hurst exponent which characterised the persistence in fractional Brownian processes.     

Compare study between smoothing efficiencies of epicyclic motion and orbital motion

The smoothing efficiencies of epicyclic motion and orbital motion in CCOS (computer controlled optical surfacing) were compared. CCOS polishing can smooth out mid-to-high spatial frequency errors which are smaller than tool size on optical mirrors due to the rigidity of polishing tools. The smoothing efficiencies of epicyclic motion and orbital motion with pitch lap and RC lap were compared and the result proved pitch lap with epicyclic motion smoothed ∼1.6 times faster than pitch lap with orbital motion while RC lap with epicyclic motion smoothed ∼1.85 times faster than RC lap with orbital motion.     

On the Pseudoconvexity of a Quadratic Fractional Function

In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the pseudoconvexity of a function f which is the ratio of a quadratic function over an affine function. The obtained results allow to suggest a simple algorithm to test the pseudoconvexity of f and also to characterize the pseudoconvexity of the sum of a linear and a linear fractional function.     

Lack of anomalous diffusion in linear translationally-invariant systems determined by only one initial condition

It is shown that as far as the linear diffusion equation meets both time- and space-translational invariance, the time dependence of a moment of degree α is a polynomial of degree at most equal to α, while all connected moments are at most linear functions of time. As a special case, the variance is an at most linear function of time.     

Lattice Boltzmann simulation of two-sided lid-driven flow in a staggered cavity

In this article, the lattice Boltzmann method is employed in order to explore incompressible fluid flow inside a two-sided lid-driven staggered cavity. Results of the lattice Boltzmann simulation for antiparallel motion of lids are compared with the data from existing literature. For parallel motion of lids, the characteristics of flow pattern for a variety of Re numbers (50–3200) are presented. An asymmetric steady-state flow pattern for parallel motion of lids is obtained.     

Numerical analysis of the initial conditions in fractional systems

Fractional dynamics is a growing topic in theoretical and experimental scientific research. A classical problem is the initialization required by fractional operators. While the problem is clear from the mathematical point of view, it constitutes a challenge in applied sciences. This paper addresses the problem of initialization and its effect upon dynamical system simulation when adopting numerical approximations. The results are compatible with system dynamics and clarify the formulation of adequate values for the initial conditions in numerical simulations.     

Functional ergodic limits for occupation time processes of site-dependent branching Brownian motions in R

We consider a kind of site-dependent branching Brownian motions whose branching laws depend on the site-branching factorσ(·).We focus on the functional ergodic limits for the occupation time processes of the models in R.It is proved that the limiting process has the form ofλξ(·),where A is the Lebesgue measure on IE andξ(·)is a real-valued process which is non-degenerate if and only ifσis integrable.Whenξ(·)is non-degenerate,it is strictly positive for t0.Moreover,ξconverges to O in finite-dimensional distributions if the integral ofσtends to infinity.     

Boundary problems for fractional differential equations

In this paper, the existence of solutions of fractional differential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions is investigated. The monotone iterative method combined with lower and upper solutions is applied. Fractional differential inequalities are also discussed. Two examples are added to illustrate the results.     

Magnetization switching modes in nanopillar spin valve under the external field

Entire large solutions of semilinear equations involving the fractional Laplacian

We investigate the existence and nonexistence of positive entire large solutions of a class of semilinear equations involving the fractional Laplacian. Sharp lower and upper bounds of the minimal solution, if it exists, are also given.
