Irregularities of distribution with respect to strips

Summary A lower bound is established for the strip discrepancy of a broad class of point distributions. The bound implies unbounded strip discrepancy for equally weighted point distributions under favorable conditions. The methods of proof use notions from integral geometry.     

The mapping properties of the radiosity operator along an edge

In this article we study the radiosity operator along an edge between two adjacent half‐planes. First we show that the radiosity operator is invertible in a whole scale of anisotropic Sobolev spaces. In the absence of any shadows we are able to derive regularity properties of the solution, which depend only on the angle between the half‐planes, the reflectivity coefficients and the right‐hand side. This work can be considered as a supplement to the article of Rathsfeld (Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences 1999; 22 : 217–241). Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Stability Properties of Feynman's Operational Calculus for Exponential Functions of Noncommuting Operators

Stability properties of Feynman's operational calculus are addressed in the setting of exponential functions of noncommuting operators. Applications of some of the stability results are presented. In particular, the time-dependent perturbation theory of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics is presented in the setting of the operational calculus and application of the stability results of this paper to the perturbation theory are discussed.     

A FUNDAMENTAL SOLUTION FOR THE LAPLACE OPERATOR ON THE QUATERNIONIC HEISENBERG GROUP

In this paper, the author studies the Laplace operator on the quaternionic Heisenberg group, construct a fundamental solution for it and use this solution to prove the Lp-boundedness and the weak (1-1) boundedness of certain singular convolution operators on the quaternionic Heisenberg group.     

Integral Inequalities and Global Solutions of Semilinear Evolution Equations

A criterion for the nonexplosion of solutions to semilinear evolution equations on Banach spaces is proved. The result is obtained by applying a modification of the Bihari type inequality to the case of a weakly singular nonlinear integral inequality.     

On a bifurcation governed by hysteresis nonlinearity

We consider autonomous systems with a nonlinear part depending on a parameter and study Hopf bifurcations at infinity. The nonlinear part consists of the nonlinear functional term and the Prandtl--Ishlinskii hysteresis term. The linear part of the system has a special form such that the close-loop system can be considered as a hysteresis perturbation of a quasilinear Hamiltonian system. The Hamiltonian system has a continuum of arbitrarily large cycles for each value of the parameter. We present sufficient conditions for the existence of bifurcation points for the non-Hamiltonian system with hysteresis. These bifurcation points are determined by simple characteristics of the hysteresis nonlinearity.     

An optical measurement of vortex shape at a free surface

We have proposed an optical method of vortex shape measurement based on Fourier transform profilometry (FTP) and verified it by experiment. The results of our experiment proposed in this paper show that FTP can efficiently reconstruct the vortex shape at a free surface and this method is suitable for wide use in studying such problems as liquid shear flow, wake of an object, flow behind a bluff body, and wetting angle.     

高斯型空间光孤子相互作用的数值研究

 通过数值模拟的方法，对高斯孤子在对数型饱和非线性介质中的相互作用进行了研究，考查了两光束间的相对振幅和相对相位对其相互作用的影响。结果表明：高斯孤子之间的相互作用敏感地依赖于两光束间的相对振幅和相对相位。在不同的振幅差异范围内，光束间的主要作用交替地表现为相互排斥和相互吸引，并由于高斯孤子的不稳定性，导致了光束在碰撞后以一种尺寸周期性变化的呼吸模式传输。随着相对相位的增大，两光束间始终持续地表现出强烈的排斥作用，直到相对相位增加到一个2π周期之后。而且碰撞之后，光束也都以呼吸模式进行传输，其分离的角度越大，呼吸就越明显。     

一类相空间中的准几率分布函数系

定义了一类相空间中的准几率分布函数系，这个准几率分布函数系直接建立在具有更加广泛意义的量子相空间Schr?dinger方程解的基础之上，其中定义_α=αp-i?q和_α=(1-α)q+i?p.发现了两个有趣的关系.(1)建立的量子相空间Schr?dinger方程的解实际上是对函数φ(λ)exp［i(1-α)qp］做窗口Fourier变换.(2)这个窗口函数g(λ)起着选择窗口形式的作用，而且不同的窗口对应着不同的分布函数.当g(λ)是一个代表Gauss窗的Gauss函数的时候，准几率分布函数就是一个类似于Husimi的分布函数f^HL_α(q,p)；当g(λ)是一个表示椭圆的复函数时，准几率分布函数就是一个椭圆分布函数f^E_α(q,p)；再在g(λ)为复函数的基础上附加α=0，就可得到标准序分布函数f^S(q,p)、反标准序分布函数f^AS(q,p)和Wigner分布函数f^W(q,p)，此时g(λ)表示高度为1/12π?而长度为λ的矩形窗. 关键词： 窗口Fourier变换 相空间 Wigner分布函数     

Laguerre expansion on the Heisenberg group and Fourier-Bessel transform on C~n Dedicated to Professor Sheng GONG on the occasion of his 75th birthday

Given a principal value convolution on the Heisenberg group Hn = Cn×R, we study the relation between its Laguerre expansion and the Fourier-Bessel expansion of its limit on Cn. We also calculate the Dirichlet kernel for the Laguerre expansion on the group Hn.
