New formal (3+3) cycloaddition of enaminones for forming tetracyclic indolo[2,3-b]quinolines under microwave irradiation

Concise and efficient base-promoted domino formal (3+3) cycloaddition has been established for the formation of tetracyclic indolo[2,3-b]quinoline derivatives under microwave heating. The present methodology shows attractive properties, such as the maximum efficiency of a process, short reaction periods, and operational simplicity, and it can avoid time-consuming and costly syntheses, tedious work-up and isolation of intermediate. This chemistry provides a facile and promising synthetic strategy to construction of tetracyclic indolo[2,3-b]quinoline skeleton.     

Synthesis of amphidinolide Y precursors

The Negishi coupling between a chiral C3 synthon and an iodoalkene arising from 3-butyn-1-ol, which gave the C3–C9 fragment of amphidinolide Y, was the starting point of a formal total synthesis of this marine natural product. By means of Sharpless ADH and TADDOL-mediated crotylation, the full western fragment (C1–C11) was obtained, which was coupled with the eastern fragment (3-hydroxyoxolane derivative). The penultimate step (ring-closing metathesis, with G-II, H–G-II, or Nitro-Grela reagents, under several conditions) posed great difficulties. The cyclization was achieved with 15c (7,9-bis-O-TES) and 15d (7-O-TES, 9-O-TBS); more than stoichiometric amounts of the H–G-II Ru complex were required for complete conversion.

Inequalities for formal power series and entire functions

We present several integral and exponential inequalities for formal power series and for both arbitrary entire functions of exponential type and generalized Borel transforms. They are obtained through certain limit procedures which involve the multiparameter binomial inequalities, integral inequalities for continuous functions, and weighted norm inequalities for analytic functions. Some applications to the confluent hypergeometric functions, Bessel functions, Laguerre polynomials, and trigonometric functions are discussed. Also some generalizations are given.     

Function-valued Padé-type approximant via the formal orthogonal polynomials and its applications in solving integral equations

A kind of function-valued Padé-type approximant via the formal orthogonal polynomials (FPTAVOP) is introduced on the polynomial space and an algorithm is sketched by means of the formal orthogonal polynomials. This method can be applied to approximate characteristic values and the corresponding characteristic function of Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. Moreover, theoretical analyses show that FPTAVOP method is the most effective one for accelerating the convergence of a sequence of functions. In addition, a typical numerical example is presented to illustrate when the estimates of characteristic value and characteristic function by using this new method are more accurate than other methods.     

A Synthesis of Thalidomide

A synthesis of racemic thalidomide ( 1 ) was described and the important formal [3+3] cycloaddition strategy was a keystep. The total yield of thalidomide ( 1 ) was 18% in five steps from known 3 .     

A novel cognitive system model and approach to transformation of information granules

In this paper, a novel cognitive system model is established based on formal concept analysis to exactly describe human cognitive processes. Two new operators, extent–intent and intent–extent, are introduced between an object and its attributes. By analyzing the necessity and sufficient relations between the object and some of its attributes, the information granule concept is investigated in human cognitive processes. Furthermore, theories of transforming arbitrary information granule into necessary, sufficient, sufficient and necessary information granules are addressed carefully. Algorithm of the transformation is constructed, by which we can provide an efficient approach to the conversion among information granules. To interpret and help understand the theories and algorithm, an experimental computing program is designed and two cases is employed as case study. Results of the small scale case are calculated by the method presented in this paper. The large-scale case is calculated by the experimental computing program and validated by the proposed algorithm. The considered framework can provide a novel convenient tool for artificial intelligence researches.

A formal synthesis of semiaquilegin A is achieved starting from readily available oridonin in 19 linear steps. The absolute configuration of the natural product has been established. A variety of useful analogues were prepared through this synthetic route.
