Maximal amplitudes of hyperelliptic solutions of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

A simple formula is proven for an upper bound for amplitudes of hyperelliptic (finite-gap or N-phase) solutions of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The upper bound is sharp, viz, it is attained for some initial conditions. The method used to prove the upper bound is the same method, with necessary modifications, used to prove the corresponding bound for solutions of the focusing NLS equation (Wright OC, III. Sharp upper bound for amplitudes of hyperelliptic solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Nonlinearity. 2019;32:1929-1966).

Convergence Dynamics of Delayed Hopfield-Type Neural Networks Under Almost Periodic Stimuli

Convergence dynamics of Hopfield-type neural networks subjected to almost periodic external stimuli are investigated. In this article, we assume that the network parameters vary almost periodically with time and we incorporate variable delays in the processing part of the network architectures. By employing Halanay inequalities, we obtain delay independent sufficient conditions for the networks to converge exponentially toward encoded patterns associated with the external stimuli. The networks are guaranteed to have exponentially hetero-associative stable encoding of the external stimuli.     

A geometric characterisation of resonance in Hopf bifurcation from relative equilibria

We give a new characterisation of resonance in Hopf bifurcation from relative equilibria in systems with compact symmetry group. This characterisation provides a full geometric explanation of the resonance phenomenon. In addition, we develop techniques based on normal form theory to give a complete solution to the associated bifurcation problem.

EXACT TRAVELLING WAVE SOLUTIONS TO BBM EQUATION

Abundant new travelling wave solutions to the BBM (Benjamin-Bona-Mahoni) equation are obtained by the generalized Jacobian elliptic function method. This method can be applied to other nonlinear evolution equations.     

Branches of positive solutions of quasilinear elliptic equations on non-smooth domains

We prove existence of an unbounded global branch (i.e. connected set) of weak solutions of a second order quasilinear equation depending on a real parameter λ$\lambda$ on an arbitrary (possibly non-smooth) bounded domain in R^N${\mathbb{R}}^N$, with a Leray–Lions operator as the leading part. Here, we can allow lower order nonlinearities which depend on first derivatives, satisfying appropriate growth conditions including the critical case. Furthermore, we give sufficient conditions for the existence of a branch consisting entirely of nonnegative solutions for positive λ$\lambda$. Our approach also yields a new existence result in the case of critical growth in derivatives of lower order.
