640 × 512 pixel narrow-band, four-band, and broad-band quantum well infrared photodetector focal plane arrays

A 9 μm cutoff 640 × 512 pixel hand-held quantum well infrared photodetector (QWIP) camera has been demonstrated with excellent imagery. A noise equivalent differential temperature (NEDT) of 10.6 mK is expected at a 65 K operating temperature with f/2 optics at a 300 K background. This focal plane array has shown background limited performance at a 72 K operating temperature with the same optics and background conditions. In this paper, we discuss the development of this very sensitive long-wavelength infrared camera based on a GaAs/AlGaAs QWIP focal plane array and its performance in quantum efficiency, NEDT, uniformity, and operability. In the second section of this paper, we discuss the first demonstration of a monolithic spatially separated four-band 640 × 512 pixel QWIP focal plane array and its performance. The four spectral bands cover 4–5.5, 8.5–10, 10–12, and 13.5–15 μm spectral regions with 640 × 128 pixels in each band. In the last section, we discuss the array performance of a 640 × 512 pixel broad-band (10–16 μm full-width at half-maximum) QWIP focal plane.     

A comparison theorem for l-adic cohomology

We show that, for certain types of rigid analytic varieties X and constructible l-adic sheaves (F_n)_n on, one has . As an application we obtain that, for an algebraic variety X and associated rigid analytic variety X^rig, the l-adic cohomology of X and X^rig agree.     

Error-Correcting Codes from Higher-Dimensional Varieties

In this paper we use intersection theory to develop methods for obtaining lower bounds on the parameters of algebraic geometric error-correcting codes constructed from varieties of arbitrary dimension. The methods are sufficiently general to encompass many of the codes previously constructed from higher-dimensional varieties, as well as those coming from curves. And still, the bounds obtained are usually as good as the ones previously known (at least of the same order of magnitude with respect to the size of the ground field). Several examples coming from Deligne–Lusztig varieties, complete intersections of Hermitian hyper-surfaces, and from ruled surfaces (or more generally, projective bundles over a curve) are given.     

Existence of Indecomposable Rank Two Vector Bundles on Higher Dimensional Toric Varieties

In the mid 1970s, Hartshorne conjectured that, for all n > 7, any rank 2 vector bundles on ? ⁿ is a direct sum of line bundles. This conjecture remains still open. In this paper, we construct indecomposable rank two vector bundles on a large class of Fano toric varieties. Unfortunately, this class does not contain ? ⁿ .

On the symplectic structure of instanton moduli spaces

We study the complex symplectic structure of the quiver varieties corresponding to the moduli spaces of SU(2) instantons on both commutative and non-commutative R⁴. We identify global Darboux coordinates and quadratic Hamiltonians on classical phase spaces for which these quiver varieties are natural completions. We also show that the group of non-commutative symplectomorphisms of the corresponding path algebra acts transitively on the moduli spaces of non-commutative instantons. This paper should be viewed as a step towards extending known results for Calogero–Moser spaces to the instanton moduli spaces.     

On the probability distribution of data at points in real complete intersection varieties

We show several estimates on the probability distribution of some data at points in real complete intersection varieties: norms of real affine solutions, condition number of real solution of real systems of multi-variate polynomial equations and convergence radius of Newton's operator for under-determined system of multi-variate polynomial equations.
