Phosphorus-containing podands

A number of monopodands havingo-diphenylphosphinyl terminal groups were synthesized by alkylating sodium derivatives of oligoethylene glycols witho-(bromomethyl)phenyldiphenylphosphine. The stability constants of the complexes of these ligands with alkali metal cations at 25 °C were determined conductometrically in a THF—chloroform solution (41, v/v). The complexing ability of monopodands with respect to the cations studied increases monotonically as the number of electron-donating sites increases (from 3 to 8) for all of the cations except Li⁺ and, to some extent, Na⁺. In the case of Li⁺ a smooth decrease in the stability of the complexes is observed. The monopodands obtained in this work differ drastically in this regard from their structural isomers, bis[o-(diphenylphosphinylmethyl)phenyl] ethers of oligoethylene glycols, which had been studied previously.For part 10, see ref. 1.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Quantitative stability of variational systems: III.ε-approximate solutions

We prove that the-optimal solutions of convex optimization problems are Lipschitz continuous with respect to data perturbations when these are measured in terms of the epi-distance. A similar property is obtained for the distance between the level sets of extended real valued functions. We also show that these properties imply that the-subgradient mapping is Lipschitz continuous.Research supported in part by the National Science Foundation and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.     

On the global optimization properties of finite-difference local descent algorithms

The paper is devoted to the convergence properties of finite-difference local descent algorithms in global optimization problems with a special -convex structure. It is assumed that the objective function can be closely approximated by some smooth convex function. Stability properties of the perturbed gradient descent and coordinate descent methods are investigated. Basing on this results some global optimization properties of finite-difference local descent algorithms, in particular, coordinate descent method, are discovered. These properties are not inherent in methods using exact gradients.The paper was presented at the II. IIASA-Workshop on Global Optimization, Sopron (Hungary), December 9–14, 1990.     

Characterization of OV-1/FFAP-mixture coated glass capillary columns used for the separation of free fatty acids

As an alternative to acid pretreated UCON and FFAP capillaries for the analysis of wide-boiling free fatty acid mixtures, OV-1 : FFAP phase mixtures were used on high-temperature silylated inert glass capillary columns. The HETP-carrier gas velocity curves, peak asymmetry factors, coating efficiency, gas phase and stationary phase contributions to the mass transfer resistance were determined for various OV-1 : FFAP ratios. Mixed-phase capillaries showed optimum performance at a 2 : 1 OV-1 : FFAP ratio. The thermal and long-term stability of OV-1-stabilized FFAP columns surpassed those of the UCON and pure FFAP reference column used.     

Theoretical Study on the Structures and Stability of Isomers and Complex of[Si,C,O,O] Sytem

A detailed singlet potential energy surface(PES) of [Si,C,O,O] system including a van der Waals (vdW) comples SiO……CO2,eight isomers,and twelve transiton states is investigated by MP2 and QCISD(T) (single-point)methods.At the final QCISD(T)/6-311 G(2df)//MP2/6-311G(d) level with zero-point energy included,the complex SiO……CO is found to be thermodynamically and kinetically the most stable species.Although eight ismoers are located as local energy minima,they are rather unstable toward isomerization to the dissociation fragments or comples.For the reaction of silocon atoms with carbon dioxide,two competitive reaction channels are found,and the primary pathway,which leads to the products of SiO and CO fragments,is the direct oxygen-abstraction process from carbon dioxide by silicon atom with a41.16 kJ/mol reaction barrier height.Our predications are in good agreement with previous experimental and theoretical studies.     

Organosoluble and transparent polyimides derived from alicyclic dianhydride and aromatic diamines

Organosoluble polyimides were synthesized with the alicyclic dianhydride 1,8‐dimethylbicyclo[2,2,2]oct‐7‐ene‐2,3,5,6‐tetracarboxylic dianhydride and aromatic diamines. The polyimides possessed good solubility both in strong dipolar solvents and in common solvents; the thermal decomposition temperature of the polyimides exceeded 420 °C. Strong and flexible films of the polyimides, with the cutoff of ultraviolet–visible absorption lower than 310–320 nm, exhibited good features as the alignment layers for nematic liquid crystals with pretilt angles of 1.5–2.9°. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The Study on the Thermal Stability of CLA in Egg Yolk

Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) have been a subject of extensive investigation for their anticarcinogenic, hypolipidemic, antiatherosclerotic and immune-enhancing activities. Stability of CLA in foods has not received much attention by both academics and industry. Although CLA has shown many beneficial effects, its decomposition must be prevented when CLA in foods is processed, stored and transported. However, no study to date has addressed the stability of CLA in foods. The present study was carried out further to examine the stability of CLA in egg yolk during the storage and frying, using gas liquid chromatography (GLC) and silver ion high-performance liquid chromatography (Agt-HPLC). The eggs, containing 4.0% CLA per gramme of egg yolk, were 40s. Either storage for 6 months or frying for 40 s did not significantly change the composition of CLA in egg yolk. However, the degradation of CLA was statistically significant when the CLA components of egg yolk protected CLA from degradation. It is concluded that CLA is well preserved in egg before it is consumed.

用密度泛函方法研究了ＬａＣ３ｎ（ｎ＝－１，０，＋１）分子簇的结构和稳定性，对这个四原子体系，提出了５种可能构型，其中３种具有Ｃ２ｖ对称性，２种为Ｃ∞ｖ对称性．在Ｃ２ｖ对称性结构中，其中１个为Ｌａ接在弯曲的Ｃ３链上，第２个是Ｌａ通过２个键与Ｃ３环相链，第３个是Ｌａ通过１个键与Ｃ３环相连；在Ｃ∞ｖ对称性中，第１个Ｌａ接在Ｃ３链的一端，而在第２个构型中，Ｌａ被插入在Ｃ３链中．结果表明，环状结构当Ｌａ接在弯曲的Ｃ３链上的是局域极小值并且最稳定     

A family of multiderivative methods for the numerical solution of the Schrödinger equation

A family of multiderivative methods with minimal phase-lag are introduced in this paper, for the numerical solution of the Schrödinger equation. The methods are called multiderivative since uses derivatives of order two, four or six.
