We compute the analytic expression of the probability distributions FAEX,+ and FAEX,− of the normalized positive and negative AEX (Netherlands) index daily returns r(t). Furthermore, we define the α re-scaled AEX daily index positive returns r(t)α and negative returns (−r(t))α, which we call, after normalization, the α positive fluctuations and α negative fluctuations. We use the Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistical test as a method to find the values of α that optimize the data collapse of the histogram of the α fluctuations with the Bramwell-Holdsworth-Pinton (BHP) probability density function. The optimal parameters that we found are α+=0.46 and α=0.43. Since the BHP probability density function appears in several other dissimilar phenomena, our result reveals a universal feature of stock exchange markets.  相似文献

This article shows turbulent behavior in a series of financial indexes assuming that they follow a cascade process of the same type as do turbulent fluids. With such a model, the energy flux between the eddies that emerge in the fluid is analogous to the financial information flux over the course of time. The results obtained confirm the variability of variation of the indexes for the considered time scale (the turbulent intermittency typical for fluids), and they also confirm that when we descend along the cascade, that is to say, when we consider smaller time intervals, the rate at which the hypothetical eddies of information dissipate becomes greater than the rate at which the information is transmitted. This fact can explain the cyclical nature of crises: ultimately, financial events have a memory of the past. Besides, the NASDAQ singular behavior regarding the number of jumps, the degree of intermittency of the turbulence and the life time of the hypothetical eddies has been analysed.  相似文献

Many numerical optimization methods use scenario trees as a discrete approximation for the true (multi-dimensional) probability distributions of the problem’s random variables. Realistic specifications in financial optimization models can lead to tree sizes that quickly become computationally intractable. In this paper we focus on the two main approaches proposed in the literature to deal with this problem: scenario reduction and state aggregation. We first state necessary conditions for the node structure of a tree to rule out arbitrage. However, currently available scenario reduction algorithms do not take these conditions explicitly into account. State aggregation excludes arbitrage opportunities by relying on the risk-neutral measure. This is, however, only appropriate for pricing purposes but not for optimization. Both limitations are illustrated by numerical examples. We conclude that neither of these methods is suitable to solve financial optimization models in asset–liability or portfolio management.  相似文献

Geometric method-based procedures, which will be called GM algorithms herein, were introduced in [M.A. Sánchez Granero, J.E. Trinidad Segovia, J. García Pérez, Some comments on Hurst exponent and the long memory processes on capital markets, Phys. A 387 (2008) 5543-5551], to efficiently calculate the self-similarity exponent of a time series. In that paper, the authors showed empirically that these algorithms, based on a geometrical approach, are more accurate than the classical algorithms, especially with short length time series. The authors checked that GM algorithms are good when working with (fractional) Brownian motions. Moreover, in [J.E. Trinidad Segovia, M. Fernández-Martínez, M.A. Sánchez-Granero, A note on geometric method-based procedures to calculate the Hurst exponent, Phys. A 391 (2012) 2209-2214], a mathematical background for the validity of such procedures to estimate the self-similarity index of any random process with stationary and self-affine increments was provided. In particular, they proved theoretically that GM algorithms are also valid to explore long-memory in (fractional) Lévy stable motions.  相似文献

Recently, there has been a growing interest in network research, especially in the fields of biology, computer science, and sociology. It is natural to address complex financial issues such as the European sovereign debt crisis from the perspective of network. In this article, we construct a network model according to the debt–credit relations instead of using the conventional methodology to measure the default risk. Based on the model, a risk index is examined using the quarterly report of consolidated foreign claims from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and debt/GDP ratios among these reporting countries. The empirical results show that this index can help the regulators and practitioners not only to determine the status of interconnectivity but also to point out the degree of the sovereign debt default risk. Our approach sheds new light on the investigation of quantifying the systemic risk.  相似文献

This paper addresses the topic of classifying financial time series in a fuzzy framework proposing two fuzzy clustering models both based on GARCH models. In general clustering of financial time series, due to their peculiar features, needs the definition of suitable distance measures. At this aim, the first fuzzy clustering model exploits the autoregressive representation of GARCH models and employs, in the framework of a partitioning around medoids algorithm, the classical autoregressive metric. The second fuzzy clustering model, also based on partitioning around medoids algorithm, uses the Caiado distance, a Mahalanobis-like distance, based on estimated GARCH parameters and covariances that takes into account the information about the volatility structure of time series. In order to illustrate the merits of the proposed fuzzy approaches an application to the problem of classifying 29 time series of Euro exchange rates against international currencies is presented and discussed, also comparing the fuzzy models with their crisp version.  相似文献

Credit trading, or leverage trading, which includes buying on margin and selling short, plays an important role in financial markets, where agents tend to increase their leverages for increased profits. This paper presents an agent-based asset market model to study the effect of the permissive leverage level on traders’ wealth and overall market indicators. In this model, heterogeneous agents can assume fundamental value-converging expectations or trend-persistence expectations, and their effective demands of assets depend both on demand willingness and wealth constraints, where leverage can relieve the wealth constraints to some extent. The asset market price is determined by a market maker, who watches the market excess demand, and is influenced by noise factors. By simulations, we examine market results for different leverage ratios. At the individual level, we focus on how the leverage ratio influences agents’ wealth accumulation. At the market level, we focus on how the leverage ratio influences changes in the asset price, volatility, and trading volume. Qualitatively, our model provides some meaningful results supported by empirical facts. More importantly, we find a continuous phase transition as we increase the leverage threshold, which may provide a further prospective of credit trading.  相似文献

We study the effect of the topology of industrial relationship (IR) between the companies in a stock exchange market on the universal features in the market. For this we propose a stochastic model for stock exchange markets based on the behavior of technical traders. From the numerical simulations we measure the return distribution, P(R)P(R), and the autocorrelation function of the volatility, C(T)C(T), and find that the observed universal features in real financial markets are originated from the heterogeneity of IR network topology. Moreover, the heterogeneous IR topology can also explain Zipf–Pareto’s law for the distribution of market value of equity in the real stock exchange markets.  相似文献

This article presents a multilevel event history model of social diffusion and applies it to Coleman, Katz, and Menzel's (1966 Coleman , J. S. , Katz , E. , &; Menzel , H. ( 1966 ). Medical Innovation: A Diffusion Study . Indianapolis , IN : Bobbs-Merrill . [Google Scholar]) data on the adoption of tetracycline by physicians. The simplest form of a multilevel model allows a random intercept. In the present application of this simple model to the Medical Innovation data, structured for an event history analysis, the physicians are nested in city and time. Random intercepts capture effects of contextual conditions that are shared by event history cases with the same city–time status. The intercepts also reflect any baseline internal contagion effects, that is, the proportion of physicians in the city–time network who have adopted the drug at time t ? 1. Here, I show that Van den Bulte and Lilien's (2001 Van den Bulte , C. &; Lilien , G. L. ( 2001 ). Medical innovation revisited: social contagion versus marketing effort . American Journal of Sociology , 106 , 14091435 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) finding of an important contextual effect of drug firms' marketing effort is misleading. I also show that the social network in which physicians are situated significantly contributes to their adoptions, controlling for baseline internal contagion effects and individual-level characteristics of physicians, which have been emphasized in investigations of these data.  相似文献

The risks and returns of stock investment are discussed via numerically simulating the mean escape time and the probability density function of stock price returns in the modified Heston model with time delay. Through analyzing the effects of delay time and initial position on the risks and returns of stock investment, the results indicate that: (i) There is an optimal delay time matching minimal risks of stock investment, maximal average stock price returns and strongest stability of stock price returns for strong elasticity of demand of stocks (EDS), but the opposite results for weak EDS; (ii) The increment of initial position recedes the risks of stock investment, strengthens the average stock price returns and enhances stability of stock price returns. Finally, the probability density function of stock price returns and the probability density function of volatility and the correlation function of stock price returns are compared with other literatures. In addition, good agreements are found between them.  相似文献
