The Identities and Central Polynomials of the Finite Dimensional Unitary Grassmann Algebras Over a Finite Field

We describe the T-ideal of identities and the T-space of central polynomials for the unitary finite dimensional Grassmann algebra over a finite field.     

Eulerian numbers: A spline perspective

In this paper, the spline interpretations of Eulerian numbers and refined Eulerian numbers are presented. Many classical results about Eulerian numbers can follow from the properties of B-splines directly, and some new results about the refined Eulerian numbers and descent polynomials are also derived. Specifically, the explicit and recurrence formulas for the refined Eulerian numbers and descent polynomials are obtained. This paper also provides a new approach to study Eulerian numbers.

Shifted Jacobi multiplier sequences and transplantation between sine and cosine series

It is shown that the multiplier norm of a shifted Jacobi multiplier sequence can be estimated by the (same) multiplier norm of the original sequence uniformly with respect to the shift. Muckenhoupt’s transplantation theorem for Jacobi series is used essentially, for which also a functional analytic understanding is given in terms of the minimality of the Jacobi system in weighted L ^p -spaces.      

A simple characterization of weighted Sobolev spaces with bounded multiplication operator

In this paper we give a simple characterization of weighted Sobolev spaces (with piecewise monotone weights) such that the multiplication operator is bounded: it is bounded if and only if the support of μ₀ is large enough. We also prove some basic properties of the appropriate weighted Sobolev spaces. To have bounded multiplication operator has important consequences in Approximation Theory: it implies the uniform bound of the zeros of the corresponding Sobolev orthogonal polynomials, and this fact allows to obtain the asymptotic behavior of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials.     

Classification of chromatographic data using multidimensional polynomials

Summary A pattern recognition methodology has been developed for analysis of chromatographic data. The method uses a new class of multidimensional orthogonal polynomials developed by Cohen in conjunction with a supervised learning technique. The method is applicable to any chromatographic data for which classification into two or more categories is desired. The algorithm analyzes both elution times and peak areas. An application is shown for the analysis of organic acids in ascitic fluid obtained from patients with liver disorders. Classification of these patients for presence or absence of bacterial infection shows over ninety percent correct classification.     

New spline spaces with generalized tension properties

The paper describes a new space of variable degree polynomials. This space is isomorphic to ℙ₆, possesses a Bernstein like basis and has generalized tension properties in the sense that, for limit values of the degrees, its functions approximate quadratic polynomials. The corresponding space of C ³, variable degree splines is also studied. This spline space can be profitably used in the construction of shape preserving curves or surfaces. Inequalities for formal power series and entire functions

We present several integral and exponential inequalities for formal power series and for both arbitrary entire functions of exponential type and generalized Borel transforms. They are obtained through certain limit procedures which involve the multiparameter binomial inequalities, integral inequalities for continuous functions, and weighted norm inequalities for analytic functions. Some applications to the confluent hypergeometric functions, Bessel functions, Laguerre polynomials, and trigonometric functions are discussed. Also some generalizations are given.     

Central limit theorems for the zeros of Lamé polynomials

In a recent paper, it was shown that the zeros of Lamé polynomials satisfy a strong law of large numbers. In this paper, we show that the zeros also satisfy two central limit theorems.     

Characteristic polynomials of linear polyacenes and their subspectrality

Coefficients of characteristic polynomials (CP) of linear polyacenes (LP) have been shown to be obtainable from Pascal’s triangle by using a graph factorisation and squaring technique. Strong subspectrality existing among the members of the linear polyacene series has been shown from the derivation of the CP’s. Thus it has been shown that the entire eigenspectrum of ann-ring LP is included in that of (2n + 1)-ring LP. Correspondence between the eigenspectra of linear chains and LP’s is brought out by a recently developed vertex-alternation and squaring algorithm.
