Pyrazolate thiocarbonylrhodium complexes. X-ray structure of [Rh(μ-3,5-Me2Pz)(CS)(PPh3)]2

The preparation and properties of complexes of general formulae [Rh(CS)-(HL)(PR₃)₂]ClO₄ (HL = pyrazole (HPz), 3-methylpyrazole (H3-MePz), 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (H3,5-Me₂Pz), PR₃ = triphenylphosphine, tricyclohexylphosphine) and [(PR₃)₂(CS)Rh(μ-Pz)AuPPh₃]ClO₄ are reported. Complexes of the first set react with potassium hydroxide to give [Rh(μ-L)(CS)(PPh₃)₂ or RhPz(CS)(PR₃)₂ complexes. The structure of the complex [Rh(3,5-Me₂Pz)(CS)(PPh₃)]₂ has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2₁/c, with Z = 4 in a unit cell of dimensions a = 12.700(11), b = 17.217(16), c = 23.041(18) Å, β = 116.55(8)°. The structure has been solved by Patterson and Fourier methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares to R = 0.059 for 1978 independent reflections. The structure consists of dimeric complexes, in which each rhodium atom is in a square-planar environment being bonded to a carbon atom of a thiocarbonyl ligand, a phosphorus atom of a triphenylphosphine molecule and to two nitrogen atoms of pyrazolate ligands bridging the metal atoms. The dihedral angle of 71.1° between such two square planes leads to a bent configuration with an intramolecular rhodium-rhodium distance of 3.220 Å. The thiocarbonyl and triphenylphosphine ligands are in a trans disposition.     

Interaction of zinc finger ZNF191(243—368) and its I323 W and R327W mutants with oligonucleotides by florescence spectrum

Two mutants of the zinc finger protein, ZNF191 (243–368) I323W and R327W, are successfully obtained by site-directed mutagenesis. The fluorescence spectrum is used to study the interaction between these two mutants and the oligonucleotides. The influence of the mutation on the interaction has been studied using ethidium bromide (EB) as the fluorescence probe. The binding constants of the I323W-DNA and R327W-DNA have been calculated and the possible binding models have been discussed.     

A study for quality evaluation of Taxilli Herba from different hosts based on fingerprint-activity relationship modeling and multivariate statistical analysis

In this study, a fingerprint-activity relationship modeling between chemical fingerprints and antirheumatic activity was established, and multivariate statistical analysis was used to evaluate the quality of Taxilli Herba (TH) from different hosts. Characteristic fingerprints of 20 batches of TH samples were generated by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-time of flight tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-Triple TOF-MS/MS), and the similarity analysis was calculated based on thirteen common characteristic peaks by hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA). Subsequently, nine efficacy markers were discovered by combining fingerprints and antirheumatic activity through grey correlation analysis (GCA) and bivariate correlation analysis (BCA). Meanwhile, the content of 5 constituents in 9 markers was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-linear ion trap tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-QTRAP-MS/MS). The comprehensive quality of TH was assessed using multivariate statistical analysis, including principal components analysis (PCA) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The results showed that a high dose of TH extract could markedly ameliorate arthritis damage compared to other doses, with flavonoids playing an important role in the antirheumatic activity. The comprehensive quality of samples from Morus alba L. (SS) was superior to those from Liquidambar formosana Hance (FXS). The present study will demonstrate the markers associated with efficacy, and provide an applicable strategy for more comprehensive quality control and evaluation of TH.     

One-dimensional Ising chain with competing interactions: Exact results and connection with other statistical models

We study the ground state properties of a one-dimensional Ising chain with a nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interactionJ ₁, and akth neighboranti-ferromagnetic interactionJ _k . WhenJ _k/J₁=–1/k, there exists a highly degenerate ground state with a residual entropy per spin. For the finite chain with free boundary conditions, we calculate the degeneracy of this state exactly, and find that it is proportional to the (N+k–1)th term in a generalized Fibonacci sequence defined by,F _N ^(k) =F _N–1 ^(k) +F _N–k ^(k) . In addition, we show that this one-dimensional model is closely related to the following problems: (a) a fully frustrated two-dimensional Ising system with a periodic arrangement of nearest-neighbor ferro- and antiferromagnetic bonds, (b) close-packing of dimers on a ladder, a 2× strip of the square lattice, and (c) directed self-avoiding walks on finite lattice strips.Work partially supported by grants from AFOSR and ARO.

A contact process with a semi-infected state on the complete graph

In this paper, we are concerned with a contact process with a semi-infected state on the complete graph C_n with n vertices. Our model is a special case of a general model introduced by Schinazi in 2003. In our model, each vertex is in one of three states, namely, “healthy,” “semi-infected,” or “fully-infected.” Only fully-infected vertices can infect others. A healthy vertex becomes semi-infected when being infected while a semi-infected vertex becomes fully-infected when being further infected. Each (semi- and fully-) infected vertex becomes healthy at constant rate. Our main result shows a phase transition for the waiting time until extinction of the fully-infected vertices. Conditioned on all the vertices are fully-infected when t = 0, we show that fully-infected vertices survive for exp?{O(n)} units of time when the infection rate λ > 4 while they die out in O(log?n) units of time when λ < 4.     

A new class of multi-wavelet bases: V-system

The V-system is a complete orthogonal system of functions defined on the interval [0, 1], generated by finite Legendre polynomials and the dilation and translation of a function generator, which consists of a finite number of continuous and discontinuous functions. The V-system has interesting properties, such as orthogonality, symmetry, completeness and short compact support. It is shown in this paper that the V-system is essentially a special multi-wavelet basis. As a result, some basic properties of the V-system are established through the well-developed theory of multi-wavelets. From this point of view, more other V-systems are constructed.
