Propagation of perturbations in a two-layer stratified fluid with an interface excited by moving sources

Propagation of small perturbations in a two-layer inviscid stratified fluid is studied. It is assumed that the higher density fluid occupies the lower unbounded half-space, while the lower density fluid occupies the upper unbounded half-space. The source of the excitation is a plane wave traveling along the interface of the fluids. An explicit analytical solution to the problem is constructed, and its existence and uniqueness are proved. The long-time wave pattern developing in the fluids is analyzed.     

A note on the existence of multiple solutions for a class of systems of second order ODEs

We prove the existence of multiple solutions for some systems of second order ODEs with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Such systems are obtained by coupling scalar ODEs with different growth conditions. The proof relies on a global continuation technique.     

Convolution powers of complex functions on

Repeated convolution of a probability measure on leads to the central limit theorem and other limit theorems. This paper investigates what kinds of results remain without positivity. It reviews theorems due to Schoenberg, Greville, and Thomée which are motivated by applications to data smoothing (Schoenberg and Greville) and finite difference schemes (Thomée). Using Fourier transform arguments, we prove detailed decay bounds for convolution powers of finitely supported complex functions on . If M is an hermitian contraction, an estimate for the off‐diagonal entries of the powers of is obtained. This generalizes the Carne–Varopoulos Markov chain estimate.     

A characterization of spaces of constant curvature by minimum covering radius of triangles

In this paper, we prove that if in a Riemannian manifold, the minimum covering radius of a point triple of small diameter depends only on the geodesic distances between the points, then the manifold must be of constant curvature. This implies that if in a complete connected Riemannian manifold, the volume of the intersection of three small geodesic balls of equal radii depends only on the distances between the centers and the radius, then it is one of the simply connected spaces of constant curvature. This generalizes an earlier result of the first author and D. Kunszenti-Kovács (2010).     

A survey on stability and rigidity results for Lie algebras

We give simple and unified proofs of the known stability and rigidity results for Lie algebras, Lie subalgebras and Lie algebra homomorphisms. Moreover, we investigate when a Lie algebra homomorphism is stable under all automorphisms of the codomain (including outer automorphisms).     

On finiteness and continuity of shot noise processes

For a rather general class of stochastic processes induced by time-stationary and by event-stationary random marked point processes, respectively, conditions are given for the almost sure finiteness of these processes and for their continuous dependence on the underlying random marked point process.     

Measure and integration: The basic extension and representation theorems in terms of new inner and outer envelopes

The work of the author in measure and integration is based on new inner and outer envelope formations, which replace the traditional Carathéodory outer measure and certain simple suprema and infima. The new formations lead to essential improvements in both the extent and the adequacy of the basic results. However, they did not find an entrance into the recent textbook literature. The present paper seeks to demonstrate their power with the examples of the basic inner and outer extension and representation theorems for set functions and functionals.     

Generalized Digroups

The concept of digroup has been proposed as a generalization of continuous groups whose tangent space is a Leibniz algebra. We study a further generalization of the digroup structure in which we do not demand that the inverses are necessarily bilateral. We characterize a generalized digroup as a set and as a product. We show an analogous to the first isomorphism theorem. Additionally, we explore the concept of dialgebra digroup.     

A lagrange multiplier theorem for control problems with state constraints

We prove an existence theorem of Lagrange multipliers for an abstract control problem in Banach spaces. This theorem may be applied to obtain optimality conditions for control problems governed by partial differential equations in the presence of pointwise state constraints.     

Parametric Duality Models for Semiinfinite Multiobjective Fractional Programming Problems Containing Generalized （α,η,ρ）-V-Invex Functions
