We introduce a notion of a real game (a generalisation of the Karchmer-Wigderson game (cf. [3]) and of real communication complexity, and relate this complexity to the size of monotone real formulas and circuits. We give an exponential lower bound for tree-like monotone protocols (defined in [4, Definition 2.2]) of small real communication complexity solving the monotone communication complexity problem associated with the bipartite perfect matching problem. This work is motivated by a research in interpolation theorems for prepositional logic (by a problem posed in [5, Section 8], in particular). Our main objective is to extend the communication complexity approach of [4, 5] to a wider class of proof systems. In this direction we obtain an effective interpolation in a form of a protocol of small real communication complexity. Together with the above mentioned lower bound for tree-like protocols this yields as a corollary a lower bound on the number of steps for particular semantic derivations of Hall's theorem (these include tree-like cutting planes proofs for which an exponential lower bound was demonstrated in [2]). 相似文献

The subject of spectral distribution methods where one derives and applies the locally smoothed forms of observables in nuclei
is briefly reviewed. It is well understood that the local forms (with respect to energy) of the level density function, expectation
values and strength densities are Gaussian, linear (or ratio of Gaussians) and a bivariate Gaussian respectively. To accomodate
symmetries in the above forms, one has to deal with multivariate distributions in general; for example the angular-momentum
(J) decomposition leads to a bivariate Gaussian form for the level density. These results extend to indefinitely large spaces
by method of partitioning and they generate convolution forms. The origin of these remarkable spectral properties is discussed
and shell model examples are given to substantiate their applicability to nuclear systems. Spectral distribution theory is
a practical, usable theory because the smoothed forms are defined in terms of traces of low particle-rank operators, and the
trace information propagates. Finally we discuss the application of the spectral methods for a wide range of nuclear problems;
these include binding energies, orbit occupancies, electromagnetic andβ-decay sum rule quantities, analysis of operators, symmetry breaking, numerical level densities, and determination of bounds
on time-reversal non-invariant part of nucleon-nucleon interaction. 相似文献

We consider a discrete-time stochastic model of an ECN/RED gateway where competing TCP sources share the link capacity. As
the number of competing flows becomes large, the asymptotic queue behavior (normalized by the number of flows) at the gateway
can be described by a simple recursion and the throughput behavior of individual TCP flows becomes asymptotically independent.
A Central Limit Theorem complement is also presented, yielding a more accurate characterization of the asymptotic queue size.
These results suggest a scalable yet accurate model of this complex large-scale stochastic feedback system, and crisply reveal
the sources of queue fluctuations.

We discuss equivalent definitions of holomorphic second-order cusp forms and prove bounds on their Fourier coefficients. We
also introduce their associated L-functions, prove functional equations for twisted versions of these L-functions and establish a criterion for a Dirichlet series to originate from a second order form. In the last section we
investigate the effect of adding an assumption of periodicity to this criterion.

In order to study the density of the set of positive integers for which the negative Pell equation is solvable in integers, we compute the norm of the fundamental unit in certain well-chosen families of real quadratic orders. A fast algorithm that computes 2-class groups rather than units is used. It is random polynomial-time in as the factorization of is a natural part of the input for the values of we encounter. The data obtained provide convincing numerical evidence for the density heuristics for the negative Pell equation proposed by the second author. In particular, an irrational proportion of the real quadratic fields without discriminantal prime divisors congruent to 3 mod 4 should have a fundamental unit of norm .

This work describes a hybrid procedure for eliminating major interference sources in aqueous near-infrared (NIR) spectra, that include aqueous influence, noise, and systemic variations irrelevant to concentration. The scheme consists of two parts: extension of wavelet prism (WPe) and orthogonal signal correction (OSC). First, WPe is employed to remove variations due to aqueous absorbance and noise; then OSC is applied to remove systemic spectral variations irrelevant to concentration. Although water possesses strong absorption bands that overshadow and overlap the absorption bands of analytes, along with noise and systematic interference, successful calibration models can be generated by employing the method proposed here. We show that the elimination of major interference sources from the aqueous NIR spectra results in a substantial improvement in the precision of prediction, and reduces the required number of PLS components in the model. In addition, the strategy proposed here can be applied to various analytical data for quantitative purposes as well. 相似文献

Using an integral-equation approach based upon an approximation for the tail function, the equilibrium properties of a system of hard spheres are studied with special concern for the behavior in the region of close packing. The closure adopted is such that full, internal consistency is ensured in the thermodynamics of the model with respect to both the two zero-separation theorems as well as to the more standard virial and fluctuation routes to the equation of state. The scheme also makes use of the continuity properties of the tail function and of the cavity distribution function at contact. These properties are explictly tested in the low-density limit up to the fourth derivative. The theory generates an equilibrium branch bounded on the high-density side by a point corresponding to a packing fraction0.78, a value which closely matches Rogers' least upper bound for the densest packing of spheres. The pair structure of the fluid in the state of random close packing is also compared to the type of local order predicted by the theory at similar densities. 相似文献

Convexlike and concavelike conditions are of interest for extensions of the Von Neumann minimax theorem. Since the beginning of the 80's, these conditions also play a certain role in deriving generalized alternative theorems of the Gordan, Motzkin, and Farkas type and Lagrange multiplier results for constrained minimization problems.In this paper, we study various known convexlike conditions for vector-valued functions on a set and investigate convexlike and concavelike conditions for real-valued functions on a product setC×D, where we are mainly interested in the relationships between these conditions.
