L p -Version of the Dubins–Savage Inequality and Some Exponential Inequalities

The Dubins–Savage inequality is generalized by using the pth (1<p≤2) conditional moment of the martingale differences. This inequality is further extended under suitable conditions when p>2. Another martingale inequality due to Freedman is also generalized when 0<p≤2. Implications of these inequalities for strong convergence are discussed. Some general exponential inequalities are also given for martingales (supermartingales) under suitable conditions.      

On a Quadratic Optimization Problem with Equality Constraints

The constrained optimization problem with a quadratic cost functional and two quadratic equality constraints has been studied by Bar-on and Grasse, with positive-definite matrix in the objective. In this note, we shall relax the matrix in the objective to be positive semidefinite. A necessary and sufficient condition to characterize a local optimal solution to be global is established. Also, a perturbation scheme is proposed to solve this generalized problem.     

Asymptotic behaviour of the three-dimensional α-Navier-Stokes model with delays

We prove the existence and exponential stability of the stationary solutions for a three-dimensional α-Navier-Stokes model with delays. Instead of working directly with the model, we establish the results for a general abstract delay model, and then we apply them to our particular situation. We use two techniques in the stability analysis: the Lyapunov and Razumikhin approaches.     

On the stability of jump-diffusions with Markovian switching

In this paper we consider the stability for a class of jump-diffusions with Markovian switching. We first construct them successively and show that they can be associated with some appropriate generators and they are non-explosive. We then prove their Feller continuity by the coupling methods. Furthermore, we also prove their strong Feller continuity by making use of the relation between the transition probabilities of jump-diffusions and the corresponding diffusions. Finally, we also investigate their exponential ergodicity.     

Parameter identification problem for the equation of motion of membrane with strong viscosity

The parameter identification problem of constant parameters in the equation of membrane with strong viscosity is studied. The problem is formulated by a minimization of quadratic cost functionals by distributive measurements. The existence of optimal parameters and necessary optimality conditions for the parameters are proved.

We study Besicovitch-type spaces of generalized almost periodic functions. The main result is a theorem on representation of linear continuous functionals that is similar to the classical result of F. Riesz.     

Convergence of the Magnus Series

The Magnus series is an infinite series which arises in the study of linear ordinary differential equations. If the series converges, then the matrix exponential of the sum equals the fundamental solution of the differential equation. The question considered in this paper is: When does the series converge? The main result establishes a sufficient condition for convergence, which improves on several earlier results.     

An improved Mordell type bound for exponential sums
