Convergence on layer-adapted meshes and anisotropic interpolation error estimates of non-standard higher order finite elements

For a general class of finite element spaces based on local polynomial spaces E with Pp⊂E⊂Qp we construct a vertex-edge-cell and point-value oriented interpolation operators that fulfil anisotropic interpolation error estimates.Using these estimates we prove ε-uniform convergence of order p for the Galerkin FEM and the LPSFEM for a singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problem with characteristic boundary layers.     

Substitution effects in the 15N NMR chemical shifts of heterocyclic azines evaluated at the GIAO‐DFT level

A systematic study of the accuracy factors for the computation of ¹⁵N NMR chemical shifts in comparison with available experiment in the series of 72 diverse heterocyclic azines substituted with a classical series of substituents (CH₃, F, Cl, Br, NH₂, OCH₃, SCH₃, COCH₃, CONH₂, COOH, and CN) providing marked electronic σ‐ and π‐electronic effects and strongly affecting ¹⁵N NMR chemical shifts is performed. The best computational scheme for heterocyclic azines at the DFT level was found to be KT3/pcS‐3//pc‐2 (IEF‐PCM). A vast amount of unknown ¹⁵N NMR chemical shifts was predicted using the best computational protocol for substituted heterocyclic azines, especially for trizine, tetrazine, and pentazine where experimental ¹⁵N NMR chemical shifts are almost totally unknown throughout the series. It was found that substitution effects in the classical series of substituents providing typical σ‐ and π‐electronic effects followed the expected trends, as derived from the correlations of experimental and calculated ¹⁵N NMR chemical shifts with Swain–Lupton's F and R constants.     

Globally exponential stability of periodic solutions for nonlinear impulsive delay systems

In this paper, the existence and globally exponential stability of periodic solutions for nonlinear impulsive delay systems are studied. Our results improve and generalize some of the previous results found in the literature. Two examples are discussed to illustrate our results.

Forecasting daily supermarket sales using exponentially weighted quantile regression

Inventory control systems typically require the frequent updating of forecasts for many different products. In addition to point predictions, interval forecasts are needed to set appropriate levels of safety stock. The series considered in this paper are characterised by high volatility and skewness, which are both time-varying. These features motivate the consideration of forecasting methods that are robust with regard to distributional assumptions. The widespread use of exponential smoothing for point forecasting in inventory control motivates the development of the approach for interval forecasting. In this paper, we construct interval forecasts from quantile predictions generated using exponentially weighted quantile regression. The approach amounts to exponential smoothing of the cumulative distribution function, and can be viewed as an extension of generalised exponential smoothing to quantile forecasting. Empirical results are encouraging, with improvements over traditional methods being particularly apparent when the approach is used as the basis for robust point forecasting.     

Existence and robustness of exponential dichotomy of linear skew-product semiflows over semiflows

In this paper we investigate the exponential dichotomy of linear skew-product semiflows over semiflows by considering the operators generated by the integral equation related to strongly continuous cocycles over metric spaces acting on Banach bundles. We characterize the existence of exponential dichotomy by properties of these operators and use this characterization to prove the robustness of exponential dichotomy.     

Analytic continuation of the exponential transform from convex cavities

The analytic continuation of the exponential transform of a domain in Rn is proved under some global geometric assumptions on the boundary. Two approximation schemes of the continued transform (one based on a Taylor series truncation, the other on a global eigenfunction expansion) are also discussed.
