Finite Groups of Bounded Rank with an Almost Regular Automorphism of Prime Order

We prove that if a finite group G of rank r admits an automorphism of prime order having exactly m fixed points, then G has a -invariant subgroup of (r,m)-bounded index which is nilpotent of r-bounded class (Theorem 1). Thus, for automorphisms of prime order the previous results of Shalev, Khukhro, and Jaikin-Zapirain are strengthened. The proof rests, in particular, on a result about regular automorphisms of Lie rings (Theorem 3). The general case reduces modulo available results to the case of finite p-groups. For reduction to Lie rings powerful p-groups are also used. For them a useful fact is proved which allows us to glue together nilpotency classes of factors of certain normal series (Theorem 2).

We study the embeddings of lattices from simple Lie groups into the group of polynomial automorphisms of the affine plane and answer a question of Dekimpe concerning cristallographic polynomial groups of the plane.

Automorphism Groups of Orthomodular Lattices Obtained from Quadratic Spaces

We study the automorphism group of some orthomodular lattices, obtained from a quadratic space over a field K. We show how this group is linked to the semi-orthogonal group and with the group of all similarity transformations of the quadratic space. When the field K is finite, the cardinality of the automorphism group is given. AMS subject classification (1991): 06C15, 15A63, 20D45.

Automorphisms of Association Schemes of Quadratic Forms over a Finite Field of Characteristic Two

Let X_n denote the set of quadratic forms in n variables over a finite field F_q of characteristic 2, and X_n the association scheme on X_n by defining the relations with respect to the type of quadratic forms. On Narrow Hexagonal Graphs with a 3-Homogeneous Suborbit

A connected graph of girth m 3 is called a polygonal graph if it contains a set of m-gons such that every path of length two is contained in a unique element of the set. In this paper we investigate polygonal graphs of girth 6 or more having automorphism groups which are transitive on the vertices and such that the vertex stabilizers are 3-homogeneous on adjacent vertices. We previously showed that the study of such graphs divides naturally into a number of substantial subcases. Here we analyze one of these cases and characterize the k-valent polygonal graphs of girth 6 which have automorphism groups transitive on vertices, which preserve the set of special hexagons, and which have a suborbit of size k – 1 at distance three from a given vertex.

In this paper, we define the concept of (right) partial generalized automorphisms and discuss the extension problem, and also give a characterization of (right) partial generalized automorphisms of semiprime rings. Finally, we study the centralizing problem of right partial generalized automorphisms.
