We prove pointwise bounds for L 2 eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on locally symmetric spaces with -rank one if the corresponding eigenvalues lie below the continuous part of the L 2 spectrum. In this article we examine the concentration and oscillation effects developed by high-frequency eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator in a compact Riemannian manifold. More precisely, we are interested in the structure of the possible invariant semiclassical measures obtained as limits of Wigner measures corresponding to eigenfunctions. These measures describe simultaneously the concentration and oscillation effects developed by a sequence of eigenfunctions. We present some results showing how to obtain invariant semiclassical measures from eigenfunctions with prescribed symmetries. As an application of these results, we give a simple proof of the fact that in a manifold of constant positive sectional curvature, every measure which is invariant by the geodesic flow is an invariant semiclassical measure.  相似文献

Let Ω be a bounded Lipschitz domain in ℝ n with n ≥ 3. We prove that the Dirichlet Laplacian does not admit any eigenfunction of the form u(x) =ϕ(x′)+ψ(x n) with x′=(x1, ..., x n−1). The result is sharp since there are 2-d polygonal domains in which this kind of eigenfunctions does exist. These special eigenfunctions for the Dirichlet Laplacian are related to the existence of uniaxial eigenvibrations for the Lamé system with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Thus, as a corollary of this result, we deduce that there is no bounded Lipschitz domain in 3-d for which the Lamé system with Dirichlet boundary conditions admits uniaxial eigenvibrations. The results of an analysis of low-Reynolds-number turbulent channel flow based on the Karhunen-Loéve(K-L) expansion are presented. The turbulent flow field is generated by a direct numerical simulation of the Navier-Stokes equations at a Reynolds number Re,= 80 (based on the wall shear velocity and channel half-width). The K-L procedure is then applied to determine the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for this flow. The random coefficients of the K-L expansion are subsequently found by projecting the numerical flow field onto these eigenfunctions. The resulting expansion captures 90% of the turbulent energy with significantly fewer modes than the original trigonometric expansion. The eigenfunctions, which appear either as rolls or shearing motions, posses viscous boundary layers at the walls and are much richer in harmonics than the original basis functions. Chaotic temporal behaviour is observed in all modes and increases for higher-order eigenfunctions. The structure and dynamical behaviour of the eigenmodes are discussed as well as their use in the representation of the turbulent flow.  相似文献

The radial part of the effective mass Klein-Gordon equation for the Hulthen potential is solved by making an approximation to the centrifugal potential. This article presents and compares two approaches of principal component (PC) analysis for two-dimensional functional data on a possibly irregular domain. The first approach applies the singular value decomposition of the data matrix obtained from a fine discretization of the two-dimensional functions. When the functions are only observed at discrete points that are possibly sparse and may differ from function to function, this approach incorporates an initial smoothing step prior to the singular value decomposition. The second approach employs a mixed effects model that specifies the PC functions as bivariate splines on triangulations and the PC scores as random effects. We apply the thin-plate penalty for regularizing the function estimation and develop an effective expectation–maximization algorithm for calculating the penalized likelihood estimates of the parameters. The mixed effects model-based approach integrates scatterplot smoothing and functional PC analysis in a unified framework and is shown in a simulation study to be more efficient than the two-step approach that separately performs smoothing and PC analysis. The proposed methods are applied to analyze the temperature variation in Texas using 100 years of temperature data recorded by Texas weather stations.
