We display a class of control systems in the plane for which it is generically true that the set attainable from any point in the plane is a closed Whitney prestratified set. That is, even if the attainable set of some given system is not closed, we can approximate the system as closely as we wish by another system whose attainable sets are closed.  相似文献

Recently, Cole (Ref. 1) presented a selection theorem in reflexive Banach spaces under certain convexity assumptions. In this paper, we present a proof of Cole's selection theorem without imposing the convexity condition. This makes the result more powerful for application in optimal control theory.The authors would like to thank Professor L. We give an existence theorem for a Lagrange problem in a reflexive separable Banach space. A set-valued derivative for a function at a point is a set of linear transformations whichapproximates the function near the point. This is stated precisely, and it is shown that, in general, there is not a unique minimal set-valued derivative for functions in the family of closed convex sets of linear transformations. For Lipschitz functions, a construction is given for a specific set-valued derivative, which reduces to the usual derivative when the function is strongly differentiable, and which is shown to be the unique minimal set-valued derivative within a certain subfamily of the family of closed convex sets of linear transformations. It is shown that this constructed set may be larger than Clarke's and Pourciau's set-valued derivatives, but that no irregularity is introduced.The author would like to thank Professor H. This paper relates the differential entropy of a sufficiently nice probability density functionp on Euclideann-space to the problem of tilingn-space by the translates of a given compact symmetric convex setS with nonempty interior. The relationship occurs via the concept of the epsilon entropy ofn-space under the norm induced byS, with probability induced byp. An expression is obtained for this entropy as approaches 0, which equals the differential entropy ofp, plusn times the logarithm of 2/, plus the logarithm of the reciprocal of the volume ofS, plus a constantC(S) depending only onS, plus a term approaching zero with. The constantC(S) is called the entropic packing constant ofS; the main results of the paper concern this constant. It is shown thatC(S) is between 0 and 1; furthermore,C(S) is zero if and only if translates ofS tile all ofn-space.This paper presents the results of one phase of research carried out at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, under Contract No. NAS 7-100, sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.  相似文献

We realize the lamplighter group /2 as a group defined by a 2-state automaton. We study the corresponding action of this group on a binary tree and on its boundary. The final goal is the computation for a special system of generators of the spectrum of the Markov (or the random walk) operator which is [–1,1] in this case and of the spectral measure which is a discrete measure concentrated on a dense countable set of points in [–1,1] (a new effect unseen before for Markovian operators on groups which leads to a counterexample to the Strong Atiyah Conjecture). This is done by the computation of spectra of finite-dimensional approximations of the operator and uses an idea of fractalness in a similar way it was used by Bartholdi and Grigorchuk for the computation of the spectra of some branch groups. We also obtain the asymptotic of type e–1/1–x of the spectral measure in the neighborhood of 1 and show that Følner sets grow exponentially.  相似文献

A code is called (t, 2)-identifying if for all the words x, y(x y) and the sets (B t (x) B t (y)) C and are nonempty and different. Constructions of such codes and a lower bound on the cardinality of these codes are given. The lower bound is shown to be sharp in some cases. Starting from a finitely ramified self-similar set X we can construct an unbounded set X by blowing-up the initial set X. We consider random blow-ups and prove elementary properties of the spectrum of the natural Laplace operator on X (and on the associated lattice). We prove that the spectral type of the operator is almost surely deterministic with the blow-up and that the spectrum coincides with the support of the density of states almost surely (actually, our result is more precise). We also prove that if the density of states is completely created by the so-called Neuman–Dirichlet eigenvalues, then almost surely the spectrum is pure point with compactly supported eigenfunctions.  相似文献
