Growth and characterization of InAs quantum dots with low-density and long emission wavelength

The growth parameters affecting the deposition of self-assembled InAs quantum dots （QDs） on GaAs substrate by low-pressure metal-organic chemical vapor deposition （MOCVD） are reported. The low-density InAs QDs （- 5 × 10^8cm^-2） are achieved using high growth temperature and low InAs coverage. Photoluminescence （PL） measurements show the good optical quality of low-density QDs. At room temperature, the ground state peak wavelength of PL spectrum and full-width at half-maximum （FWHM） are 1361 nm and 23 meV （35 nm）, respectively, which are obtained as the GaAs capping layer grown using triethylgallium （TEG） and tertiallybutylarsine （TBA）. The PL spectra exhibit three emission peaks at 1361, 1280, and 1204 nm, which correspond to the ground state, the first excited state, and the second excited state of the ODs, respectively.     

An improved partial SPIHT with classified weighted rate-distortion optimization for interferential multispectral image compression

Based on the property analysis of interferential multispectral images, a novel compression algorithm of partial set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) with classified weighted rate-distortion optimization is presented.After wavelet decomposition, partial SPIHT is applied to each zero tree independently by adaptively selecting one of three coding modes according to the probability of the significant coefficients in each bitplane.Meanwhile the interferential multispectral image is partitioned into two kinds of regions in terms of luminous intensity, and the rate-distortion slopes of zero trees are then lifted with classified weights according to their distortion contribution to the constructed spectrum.Finally a global ratedistortion optimization truncation is performed.Compared with the conventional methods, the proposed algorithm not only improves the performance in spatial domain but also reduces the distortion in spectral domain.     

Multiplicity distribution of final-state particles and different contributions of related Sources in nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies

The final state particle multiplicity distributions in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions are described by two different sub-distributious contributed by a single nucleon.The Monte Carlo calculated results from the two sub-distributions and the participant-spectator model are compared and found to be in agreement with the experimental data of Au-Au collisions ats=130 AGeV and Pb-Pb collisions at 158 AGeV.     

On Formality of a Class of Compact Homogeneous Spaces

We prove the formality property of any homogeneous space G/G generated by an automorphism of finite order of a compact simple Lie group G.     

A Theorem Concerning Nets Arising from Generalized Quadrangles with a Regular Point

Suppose is a generalized quadrangle (GQ) of order , with a regular point. Then there is a net which arises from this regular point. We prove that if such a net has a proper subnet with the same degree as the net, then it must be an affine plane of order t. Also, this affine plane induces a proper subquadrangle of order t containing the regular point, and we necessarily have that . This result has many applications, of which we give one example. Suppose is an elation generalized quadrangle (EGQ) of order , with elation point p. Then is called a skew translation generalized quadrangle (STGQ) with base-point p if there is a full group of symmetries about p of order t which is contained in the elation group. We show that a GQ of order s is an STGQ with base-point p if and only if p is an elation point which is regular.     

Liouville Theorems for Generalized Harmonic Functions

Each nonzero solution of the stationary Schrödinger equation u(x)–c(r)u(x)=0 in R ⁿ with a nonnegative radial potential c(r) must have certain minimal growth at infinity. If r ² c(r)=O(1), r, then a solution having power growth at infinity, is a generalized harmonic polynomial.     

Geometry of 2 × 2 hermitian matrices

LetD be a division ring which possesses an involution a → α . Assume that is a proper subfield ofD and is contained in the center ofD. It is pointed out that ifD is of characteristic not two, D is either a separable quadratic extension of F or a division ring of generalized quaternions over F and that if D is of characteristic two,D is a separable quadratic extension ofF. Thus the trace map Tr:D → F, a → a + a is always surjective, which is formerly posed as an assumption in the fundamental theorem of n×n hermitian matrices overD when n ≥ 3 and now can be deleted. WhenD is a field, the fundamental theorem of 2 × 2 hermitian matrices overD has already been proved. This paper proves the fundamental theorem of 2×2 hermitian matrices over any division ring of generalized quaternions of characteristic not two This research was completed during a visit to the Academy of Mathematics and System Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

If is a upper triangular matrix on the Hilbert space , then -Weyl's theorem for and need not imply -Weyl's theorem for , even when . In this note we explore how -Weyl's theorem and -Browder's theorem survive for operator matrices on the Hilbert space.

     

Equality of two spectra arising in harmonic analysis and semigroup theory

We show that a new notion of a spectrum of a function ( is a Banach space), defined by B. Basit and the first author, coincides with the Arveson spectrum of some shift group, provided is uniformly continuous. We apply this result to prove a new version of a tauberian theorem.
