Analytic continuation and identities involving heat,Poisson, wave and Bessel kernels

In this article we use classical formulas involving the K–Bessel function in two variables to express the Poisson kernel on a Riemannian manifold in terms of the heat kernel. We then use the small time asymptotics of the heat kernel on certain Riemannian manifolds to obtain a meromorphic continuation of the associated Poisson kernel to all values of complex time with identifiable singularities. This result reproves in a different setting by different means a well–known theorem due to Duistermaat and Guillemin [DG 75]. Nonlinear Energy Transfer over the Wave Spectrum in Water Covered by Solid Ice

On the basis of the hydrodynamic equations for nonlinear elastic-gravity waves beneath a solid ice cover and their Hamiltonian representation, a three-wave kinetic equation for the time evolution of the wave spectrum is formulated. The properties of the kernel of the kinetic integral describing the nonlinear interactions between wave triplets are investigated. An algorithm for numerically calculating the kinetic integral is developed. The rate of nonlinear energy transfer over the wave spectrum is estimated quantitatively and its most important characteristics are found.

Estimating means from a non-I.I.D. Mixture of Poisson samples

In this paper, a family of estimators for estimating means when mixing two independent Poisson samples is proposed. This family is based on the probability-generating function of the Poisson distribution and is offered as an alternative to the maximum likelihood estimators, which have some drawbacks. These estimators include the method of moments estimators as a special limiting case.     

The change of the superstructure of semicrystalline polymers during deformation: results from small-angle scattering with synchrotron radiation

The change of the superstructure of different polyethylenes during uniaxial deformation is investigated. The method used is small-angle scattering with synchrotron radiation. For branched polyethylene (Lupolen 1840D) the whole deformation range is analyzed. Beginning with superstructure of the lamellar cluster type, the superstructure partly disappears on a time scale of a few minutes and the fibrillar structure is built up. The degree of destruction and rebuilding depends on the drawing temperature. For very high molecular weight polyethylene (GUR) a reversible change of the superstructure at higher deformation ratios and at different temperatures is observed. The superstructure of (ethylene—hexene) copolymers (TIPELIN) at high draw ratios depends on the drawing temperature and is almost independent of the side group content. Interfibrillar microcracks parallel to the draw direction are produced in samples with a low side group content for draw ratios λ ≥ 1.5.
