Gas chromatrography (GC) with sulfur chemiluminescence detection (SCD) is an outstanding combination for selectively determining trace concentrations of sulfur compounds in hydrocarbon samples. GC peaks can be identified by retention times when reproducible, automated injection techniques are used. However, as described in this work, analysts should be on the look out for retention shifting due to solvent effects from sample components. Three examples of retention shifting are presented: (1) thiophene by benzene; (2) methylthiophenes by toluene; and (3) dibenzothiophene by gas oil. Depending on samples and analysis conditions, retention shifts from a few hundredths to 1.5 min have been observed. Such retention shifts are likely to cause errors in peak identifications. Therefore, when using SCD, simultaneous FID monitoring is recommended as an aid in evaluating chromatograms for possible retention shifting due to solvent effects. 相似文献

The Weibull distribution is one of the most important distributions that is utilized as a probability model for loss amounts in connection with actuarial and financial risk management problems. This paper considers the Weibull distribution and its quantiles in the context of estimation of a risk measure called Value-at-Risk (VaR). VaR is simply the maximum loss in a specified period with a pre-assigned probability level. We attempt to present certain estimation methods for VaR as a quantile of a distribution and compare these methods with respect to their deficiency (Def) values. Along this line, the results of some Monte Carlo simulations, that we have conducted for detailed investigations on the efficiency of the estimators as compared to MLE, are provided. 相似文献

Summary A set of hydrophilicity parameters in a normal-phase liquid chromatography of peptides is presented in order to clarify the
contribution of individual amino acid residues to peptide retention and to predict retention times. The retention of 100 peptides
was studied using normal-phase liquid chromatography on amide, diol and silica columns. An acetonitrile-water mixed solution
containing 0.2% trifluoroacetic acid +0.2% triethylamine was used as the mobile phase in a linear gradient elution system.
The contribution of each residue upon retention was calculated by linear multiple regression analysis. This paper described
the contribution values as “hydrophilicity retention coefficients”. Using these hydrophilicity retention coefficients, retention
times could be predicted for peptides of known amino acid content and sequence. A set of hydrophilicity retention coefficients
on each column was successfully explained by contributions to the degree of retention. 相似文献

This article presents an overview of recent advances in the study of electron pairing through the use of localization and
delocalization indices obtained from double integration over atomic basins of the exchange–correlation density in the framework
of the atoms-in-molecules theory. These localization and delocalization indices describe the intra- and interatomic distribution
of the electron pairs in a molecule. The main results of the application of these second-order indices to the analysis of
molecular structure and chemical reactivity are briefly reviewed. It is shown that localization and delocalization indices
represent a powerful tool to describe the electron-pair structure of molecules, which, in turn, provides deeper insight into
relevant chemical phenomena such as electron correlation effects and the formation of localized α, β electron pairs.

The societal cost of micronutrient deficiency (MND) or the “hidden hunger” is in millions of dollars/year, reducing the GDP of some countries by as much as 11%. Zn is an important micronutrient for both plants and animals. An estimated 17% of the world population, or around 1.1 billion people, are at the risk of zinc (Zn) deficiency. The deficiency has been related to adverse pregnancy outcomes, stunted growth, premature deaths, immune system dysfunctions, neuro-behavioral disorders, and recently with the failure to recover from COVID-19. These health risks associated with Zn deficiency have compelled FAO and WHO to recommend Zn fortification of diet. Correcting Zn deficiency is a challenge due to several reasons. Close to half of the agricultural soils are Zn deficient, and chemical Zn fertilizers are costly and ineffective. Developing Zn-rich crops through plant breeding and genetic engineering is challenging. Zn-dense diet is costly and cannot be implemented in the low-income region most affected by Zn deficiency. Lack of consensus among regulatory bodies on defining and diagnosing Zn deficiency in plants and Humans. Awareness and other sociocultural issues. Among the most important available solutions are zinc biofortification of the cereal crops, use of zinc biofertilizers, development of Zn-efficient crops with reduced phytate content. The use of Zn supplements, dietary modification, and diversification, especially with fish, are proposed as the most accessible and affordable solutions. Awareness programs in areas suffering the most from Zn deficiency are required. Despite the suggestions from FAO and WHO, global efforts to combat Zn deficiency matching those for combating diseases like HIV are not in place. Coordinated efforts of the international community, especially policy-makers, agricultural scientists, dieticians, physicians, and others, are required to address the issue of hidden hunger. 相似文献

Retention of thioesters of perfluoropentanoic acid C4F9C(O)SR was studied by GLC on packed and capillary columns using stationary phases SE-30, SKTFT-50X, XE-60, and Carbowax 20M.
The retention indices of these compounds were calculated, and their relationship with the structure of the compounds and the
conditions of the analysis were established.
