Multilinear Calderón-Zygmund Theory

A systematic treatment of multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators is presented. The theory developed includes strong type and endpoint weak type estimates, interpolation, a multilinear T1 theorem, and a variety of results regarding multilinear multiplier operators.     

On Generating Discrete Orthogonal Bivariate Polynomials

In this paper we present an algorithm for recursively generating orthogonal bivariate polynomials on a discrete set S ². For this purpose we employ commuting pairs of real symmetric matrices H, K ^n×n to obtain, in a certain sense, a two dimensional Hermitian Lanczos method. The resulting algorithm relies on a recurrence having a slowly growing length. Practical implementation issues an applications are considered. The method can be generalized to compute orthogonal polynomials depending on an arbitrary number of variables.     

On G 2 Continuous Spline Interpolation of Curves in ℝ d

In this paper the problem of G ² continuous interpolation of curves in ^d by polynomial splines of degree n is studied. The interpolation of the data points and two tangent directions at the boundary is considered. The case n = r + 2 = d, where r is the number of interior points interpolated by each segment of the spline curve, is studied in detail. It is shown that the problem is uniquely solvable asymptotically, e., when the data points are sampled regularly and sufficiently dense, and lie on a regular, convex parametric curve in ^d . In this case the optimal approximation order is also determined.

Elastoplastic stress analysis for cylindrical shell with flat strip imperfection

Based on unequidistant B-spline function, generalized spline subdomain displacement mode of rotational shell is obtained by taking double-direction interpolation of spline. The elastoplastic constitutive equation of shells is established by using the endochronic theory.According to the initial deflection theory of shells, the elastoplastic stress analysis of cylindrical shells with flat strip geometrical imperfection is studied. Numerical results show that the geometrical imperfection has a great effect on the stress distribution of shells.

Generalized Poincaré Classes and Cubic Equivalences

Let Y be a smooth projective algebraic surface over ?, and T(Y) the kernel of the Albanese map CH₀(Y)_deg0 → Alb(Y). It was first proven by D. Mumford that if the genus Pg(Y) > 0, then T(Y) is 'infinite dimensional'. One would like to have a better idea about the structure of T(Y). For example, if Y is dominated by a product of curves E₁ × E₂, such as an abelian or a Kummer surface, then one can easily construct an abelian variety B and a surjective 'regular' homomorphism B^?z2 → T(Y). A similar story holds for the case where Y is the Fano surface of lines on a smooth cubic hypersurface in P⁴. This implies a sort of boundedness result for T(Y). It is natural to ask if this is the case for any smooth projective algebraic surface Y ? Partial results have been attained in this direction by the author [Illinois. J. Math. 35 (2), 1991]. In this paper, we show that the answer to this question is in general no. Furthermore, we generalize this question to the case of the Chow group of k—cycles on any projective algebraic manifold X, and arrive at, from a conjectural standpoint, necessary and sufficient cohomological conditions on X for which the question can be answered affirmatively.

On the choice of the initial value of a quadratic spline in positive interpolation

Any quadratic spline with coinciding interpolating points and breakpoints can be uniquely determined by one initial condition. We examine how to choose the initial value in positive interpolation by using a norm of the spline. Monotone interpolation is also considered. The results are illuminated by numerical examples and by an application.
