Bipyridinophane‐containing conjugated polymers modulated with an intramolecular aromatic C?H/π interaction

Bipyridinophane–fluorene conjugated copolymers have been synthesized via Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions from 5,8‐dibromo‐2,11‐dithia[3]paracyclo[3](4,4′)‐2,2′‐bipyridinophane and suitable fluorene precursors. Poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dihexylfluorene)‐co‐alt‐5,8‐(2,11‐dithia[3]paracyclo[3](4,4′)‐2,2′‐bipyridinophane)] ( P7 ) exhibits large absorption and emission redshifts of 20 and 34 nm, respectively, with respect to its planar reference polymer Poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dihexylfluorene)‐co‐alt‐1,4‐(2,5‐dimethylbenzene)] ( P11 ), which bears the same polymer backbone as P7 . These spectral shifts originate from intramolecular aromatic C? H/π interactions, which are evidenced by ultraviolet–visible and ¹H NMR spectra as well as X‐ray single‐crystal structural analysis. However, the effect of the intramolecular aromatic C? H/π interactions on the spectral shift in poly[9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐yleneethynylene‐co‐alt‐5,8‐(2,11‐dithia[3]paracyclo[3](4,4′)‐2,2′‐bipyridinophane)] ( P10 ) is much weaker. Most interestingly, the quenching behaviors of these two conjugated polymers are largely dependent on the polymer backbone. For example, the fluorescence of P7 is efficiently quenched by Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺, Zn²⁺, Mn²⁺, and Ag⁺ ions. In contrast, only Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, and Ni²⁺ ions can partially quench the fluorescence of P10 , but much less efficiently than the fluorescence of P7 . The static Stern–Volmer quenching constants of Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, and Ni²⁺ ions toward P7 are of the order of 10⁶ M^?1, being 1300, 2500, and 37,300 times larger than those of P10 , respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Interacting Spin 0 Fields with Torsion via Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau Theory

Here we study the behaviour of the spin 0 sector of the DKP field in spaces with torsion. First we show that in a Riemann-Cartan manifold the DKP field presents an interaction with torsion when minimal coupling is performed, contrary to the behaviour of the KG field, a result that breaks the usual equivalence between the DKP and the KG fields.Next we analyse the case of the Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity (Weitzenböck manifold), showing that in this case there is a perfect agreement between KG and DKP fields. RECURSIVE BAIRE CLASSIFICATION AND SPEEDABLE FUNCTIONS

Using recursive variants of Baire notions of nowhere dense and meagre sets we study the topological size of speedable and infinitely often speedable functions in a machine-independent framework. We show that the set of speedable functions is not “small” whereas the set of infinitely often speedable functions is “large”. In this way we offer partial answers to a question in [4].     

Elliptic cross section without warping under torsion

The object of this paper is the pure torsion of the nonhomogeneous anisotropic elastic beam. The results of Saint-Venant’s theory of uniform torsion are used to prove a nonwarping property of elliptic cylinders.     

About the Notion of Semiring of Sets

We introduce a generalized notion of semiring and prove that all known properties that semirings have according to the old definition are preserved.     

An approximation property of harmonic functions in Lipschitz domains and some of its consequences

An extension of an inequality of J. B. Garnett (1979), with improvements by B. E. J. Dahlberg (1980), on an approximation property of harmonic functions is proved. The weighted inequality proved here was suggested by the work of J. Pipher (1993) and it implies an extension of a result of S. Y. A. Chang, J. Wilson and T. Wolff (1985) and C. Sweezy (1991) on exponential square integrability of the boundary values of solutions to second-order linear differential equations in divergence form. This implies a solution of a problem left open by R. Bañuelos and C. N. Moore (1989) on sharp estimates for the area integral of harmonic functions in Lipschitz domains.

On the Buchstaber Subring in MS p

A formula is given to calculate the last n number of symplectic characteristic classes of the tensor product of the vector Spin(3)- and Sp(n)-bundles through its first 2n number of characteristic classes and through characteristic classes of Sp(n)-bundle. An application of this formula is given in symplectic cobordisms and in rings of symplectic cobordisms of generalized quaternion groups.
