On the optimal form of a signal in Fourier Transform Mechanical Spectroscopy

The analysis of the Fourier Transform Mechanical Spectroscopy (FTMS) method in application to measuring viscoelastic properties of a material in a linear viscoelastic domain shows that sensitivity of the method at higher harmonics strongly depends on the form of the input signal. Then the problem of the choice of the optimal signal is discussed. It is shown that the function f(t)=(sint)/t provides the best form of the input signal basing on the requirement to hold equal amplitudes of all higher harmonics. The comparison of data obtained by the FTMS method and viscoelastic properties measured in harmonic oscillations demonstrates that both methods give adequate results.The application of the FTMS method with the input signal of the optimal form for measuring linear viscoelastic properties of a material saves time of an experiment (up to 3–4 times) and might be specially interesting for analysis of unstable (rheokinetic) materials, in particular, curing oligomers, because the time evolution of different relaxation modes can proceed in different manner.     

Homological Properties of Modules Over Group Algebras

Let G be a locally compact group, and let L¹ (G) be the Banachalgebra which is the group algebra of G. We consider a varietyof Banach left L¹ (G)-modules over L¹ (G), and seek to determineconditions on G that determine when these modules are eitherprojective or injective or flat in the category. The answerstypically involve G being compact or discrete or amenable. Forexample, in the case where G is discrete and 1 < p < ,we find that the module ^p (G) is injective whenever G is amenable,and that, if it is amenable, then G is ‘pseudo-amenable’,a property very close to that of amenability. 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 46H25, 43A20.     

On（N,U）-Coherence of Modules and Rings

Let U be a flat right R-module and N an infinite cardinal number.A left R-module M is said to be (N,U)-coherent if every finitely generated submodule of every finitely generated M-projective module in σ[M] is (N,U)-finitely presented in σ[M].It is proved under some additional conditions that a left R-module M is (N,U)-coherent if and only if Л^Ni∈I U is M-flat as a right R-module if and only if the (N,U)-coherent dimension of M is equal to zero.We also give some characterizations of left (N,U)-coherent dimension of rings and show that the left N-coherent dimension of a ring R is the supremum of (N,U)-coherent dimensions of R for all flat right R-modules U.     

Generalized Transvectants-Rankin–Cohen Brackets

We introduce o(p+1q+1)-invariant bilinear differential operators on the space of tensor densities on Rⁿ generalizing the well-known bilinear sl₂-invariant differential operators in the one-dimensional case, called Transvectants or Rankin–Cohen brackets. We also consider already known linear o(p+1q+1)-invariant differential operators given by powers of the Laplacian.     

Modules with the Direct Summand Sum Property

The present work gives some characterizations of R-modules with the direct summand sum property (in short DSSP), that is of those R-modules for which the sum of any two direct summands, so the submodule generated by their union, is a direct summand, too. General results and results concerning certain classes of R-modules (injective or projective) with this property, over several rings, are presented.     

The rank of finitely generated modules over group algebras

We show the existence of a rank function on finitely generated modules over group algebras , where is an arbitrary field and is a finitely generated amenable group. This extends a result of W. Lück (1998).

     

Forcing Linearity Numbers for Modules over PID's

Let V be a module over a principal ideal domain. Then V = M N where M is divisible and N has no nonzero divisible submodules. In this paper we determine the forcing linearity number for V when N is a direct sum of cyclic modules. As a consequence, the forcing linearity numbers of several classes of Abelian groups are obtained.     

RRF rings which are not LRF

Define a ringA to be RRF (respectively LRF) if every right (respectively left)A-module is residually finite. We determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for a formal triangular matrix ring to be RRF (respectively LRF). Using this we give examples of RRF rings which are not LRF.     

Rank one case of Dwork's conjecture

In this paper, we prove the rank one case of Dwork's conjecture on the -adic meromorphic continuation of the pure slope L-functions arising from the slope decomposition of an overconvergent F-crystal. Further explicit information about zeros and poles of the pure slope L-functions are also obtained, including an application to the Gouvêa-Mazur type conjecture in this setting.
