A novel coupling scheme using M≥2 arrays of coupled nonlinear elements arranged in a specific configuration can produce multifrequency patterns or a frequency down-converting effect on an external (input) signal. In such a configuration, each array contains N≥3 nonlinear elements with similar dynamics and each element is coupled unidirectionally within the array. The subsequent arrays in the cascade are coupled in a similar fashion except that the coupling direction is arranged in the opposite direction with respect to that of the preceding array. Previous theoretical work and numerical results have already been reported in [P. Longhini, A. Palacios, V. In, J. Neff, A. Kho, A. Bulsara, Exploiting dynamical symmetry in coupled nonlinear elements for efficient frequency down-conversion, Phys. Rev. E 76 (2007) 026201]. This paper is focused on results of experiments implemented on two distinct systems: the first system is fabricated using discrete component circuits to approximate an overdamped bistable Duffing oscillator described by a quartic potential system, and the second system is built in a microcircuit, where the nonlinearity is described by a hyperbolic tangent function, with the option of applying an external signal to investigate resonant effects. In particular, the circuit implementations for each case use M=2 arrays, but their voltage oscillations already demonstrate that the frequency relations between each of the successive arrays decrease by a rational factor, conforming to earlier theoretical and numerical results for the general case containing M arrays. This behavior is important for efficient frequency down-converting applications which are essential in many communication systems where heterodyning is typically used and it involves multi-step processes with complicated circuitry.  相似文献

We show that a hyperbolic chaos can be observed in resonantly coupled oscillators near a Hopf bifurcation, described by normal-form-type equations for complex amplitudes. The simplest example consists of four oscillators, comprising two alternatively activated, due to an external periodic modulation, pairs. In terms of the stroboscopic Poincaré map, the phase differences change according to an expanding Bernoulli map that depends on the coupling type. Several examples of hyperbolic chaos for different types of coupling are illustrated numerically.  相似文献

In this Letter we compare the characteristics of two types of the intermittent behavior (type-I intermittency in the presence of noise and eyelet intermittency taking place in the vicinity of the chaotic phase synchronization boundary) supposed hitherto to be different phenomena. We show that these effects are the same type of dynamics observed under different conditions. The correctness of our conclusion is confirmed by the consideration of different sample systems, such as quadratic map, Van der Pol oscillator and Rössler system. Consideration of the problem concerning the upper boundary of the intermittent behavior also confirms the validity of the statement on the equivalence of type-I intermittency in the presence of noise and eyelet intermittency observed in the onset of phase synchronization.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a numerical scheme using uniform Haar wavelet approximation and quasilinearization process for solving some nonlinear oscillator equations. In our proposed work, quasilinearization technique is first applied through Haar wavelets to convert a nonlinear differential equation into a set of linear algebraic equations. Finally, to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method, it has been applied on three type of nonlinear oscillators namely Duffing, Van der Pol, and Duffing–van der Pol. The obtained responses are presented graphically and compared with available numerical and analytical solutions found in the literature. The main advantage of uniform Haar wavelet series with quasilinearization process is that it captures the behavior of the nonlinear oscillators without any iteration. The numerical problems are considered with force and without force to check the efficiency and simple applicability of method on nonlinear oscillator problems.  相似文献

From Kantorovich’s theory we establish a general semilocal convergence result for Newton’s method based fundamentally on a generalization required to the second derivative of the operator involved. As a consequence, we obtain a modification of the domain of starting points for Newton’s method and improve the a priori error estimates. In parameter space of nonlinear dynamical systems, windows of periodic states are aligned following the routes of period-adding configuring periodic window sequences. In state space of driven nonlinear oscillators, we determine the torsion associated with the periodic states and identify regions of uniform torsion in the window sequences. Moreover, we find that the measured torsion differs by a constant between successive windows in periodic window sequences. Finally, combining the torsion-adding phenomenon, reported in this work, and the known period-adding rule, we deduce a general rule to obtain the asymptotic winding number in the accumulation limit of such periodic window sequences.  相似文献

The mean spherical approximation (MSA) has proved to be a very general and flexible method to analyze equilibrium statistical mechanical systems. In this note we test its accuracy against a simple one-dimensional model, i.e., a lattice gas of polarizable molecules where the internal degree of freedom is treated as quantized harmonic oscillators which interact via harmonic forces. This model can be solved exactly. We find a very good agreement between the MSA and exact solutions.2 The corresponding classical problem of polarizable particles was first solved in a mean spherical approximation (MSA) by M. Wertheim [J. Chem. Phys. 26:1425 (1973)]. He considered the model with nonfluctuating dipole moments. Later L. Pratt [Mol. Phys. 40:347 (1980)] and J. S. Høye and G. Stell [J. Chem. Phys. 73:461 (1980)] solved the corresponding classical problem in the MSA for particles with fluctuating dipole moments.  相似文献

We investigate the spatial behaviour of the quantum-noise-reduction spectrum of the vacuum state emitted by a degenerate optical parametric oscillator below threshold. In view of possible experimental implementations, we consider a mode-degenerate resonator and two matching lenses and show that, for the realistic case of a finite-width pump, significant level of squeezing can be observed in a very small region of the beam.
