This paper presents a new numerical strategy for computing the nonclassical weak solutions of scalar conservation laws which fail to be genuinely nonlinear. We concentrate on the typical situation of concave–convex and convex–concave flux functions. In such situations the so‐called nonclassical shocks, violating the classical Oleinik entropy criterion and selected by a prescribed kinetic relation, naturally arise in the resolution of the Riemann problem. Enforcing the kinetic relation from a numerical point of view is known to be a crucial but challenging issue. By means of an algorithm made of two steps, namely an Equilibrium step and a Transport step, we show how to force the validity of the kinetic relation at the discrete level. The proposed strategy is based on the use of a numerical flux function and random numbers. We prove that the resulting scheme enjoys important consistency properties. This paper is about equality of proofs in which a binary predicate formalizing properties of equality occurs, besides conjunction and the constant true proposition. The properties of equality in question are those of a preordering relation, those of an equivalence relation, and other properties appropriate for an equality relation in linear logic. The guiding idea is that equality of proofs is induced by coherence, understood as the existence of a faithful functor from a syntactical category into a category whose arrows correspond to diagrams. Edges in these diagrams join occurrences of variables that must remain the same in every generalization of the proof. It is found that assumptions about equality of proofs for equality are parallel to standard assumptions about equality of arrows in categories. They reproduce standard categorial assumptions on a different level. It is also found that assumptions for a preordering relation involve an adjoint situation.   相似文献

The mechanical behavior of semicrystalline polymers is strongly dependent on their crystallinity level, the initial underlying microstructure, and the evolution of this structure during deformation. A previously developed micromechanical constitutive model is used to capture the elasto‐viscoplastic deformation and texture evolution in semicrystalline polymers. The model represents the material as an aggregate of two‐phase layered composite inclusions, consisting of crystalline lamellae and amorphous layers. This work focuses on adding quantitative abilities to the multiscale constitutive model, in particular for the stress‐dependence of the rate of plastic deformation, referred to as the slip kinetics. To do that, the previously used viscoplastic power law relation is replaced with an Eyring flow rule. The slip kinetics are then re‐evaluated and characterized using a hybrid numerical/experimental procedure, and the results are validated for uniaxial compression data of HDPE, at various strain rates. A double yield phenomenon is observed in the model prediction. Texture analysis shows that the double yield point in the model is due to morphological changes during deformation, that induce a change of deformation mechanism. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper studies wave propagation in a soft electroactive cylinder with an underlying finite deformation in the presence of an electric biasing field.Based on a recently proposed nonlinear framework for electroelasticity and the associated linear incremental theory,the basic equations governing the axisymmetric wave motion in the cylinder,which is subjected to homogeneous pre-stretches and pre-existing axial electric displacement,are presented when the electroactive material is isotropic and incompressible.Exact wave solution is then derived in terms of(modified) Bessel functions.For a prototype model of nonlinear electroactive material,illustrative numerical results are given.It is shown that the effect of pre-stretch and electric biasing field could be significant on the wave propagation characteristics.  相似文献

A two‐step conservative level set method is proposed in this study to simulate the gas/water two‐phase flow. For the sake of accuracy, the spatial derivative terms in the equations of motion for an incompressible fluid flow are approximated by the coupled compact scheme. For accurately predicting the modified level set function, the dispersion‐relation‐preserving advection scheme is developed to preserve the theoretical dispersion relation for the first‐order derivative terms shown in the pure advection equation cast in conservative form. For the purpose of retaining its long‐time accurate Casimir functionals and Hamiltonian in the transport equation for the level set function, the time derivative term is discretized by the sixth‐order accurate symplectic Runge–Kutta scheme. To resolve contact discontinuity oscillations near interface, nonlinear compression flux term and artificial damping term are properly added to the second‐step equation of the modified level set method. For the verification of the proposed dispersion‐relation‐preserving scheme applied in non‐staggered grids for solving the incompressible flow equations, three benchmark problems have been chosen in this study. The conservative level set method with area‐preserving property proposed for capturing the interface in incompressible fluid flows is also verified by solving the dam‐break, Rayleigh–Taylor instability, bubble rising in water, and droplet falling in water problems. We study several generalizations of the AGM continued fraction of Ramanujan inspired by a series of recent articles in which the validity of the AGM relation and the domain of convergence of the continued fraction were determined for certain complex parameters (Borwein et al., Exp. Math. 13, 275–286, 2004, Ramanujan J., in press, 2004; Borwein and Crandall, Exp. Math. 12, 287–296, 2004). A study of the AGM continued fraction is equivalent to an analysis of the convergence of certain difference equations and the stability of dynamical systems. Using the matrix analytical tools developed in 2004, we determine the convergence properties of deterministic difference equations and so divergence of their corresponding continued fractions.
