A Bivariant Chern character for p-summable quasihomomorphisms

We define a Chern character for p-summable quasihomomorphisms. We study its properties and show that it is compatible with the analytic index. The results are similar to Connes' results on the Chern character on K-homology but the methods are different. This solves most of a problem of Connes.     

Imaginary quadratic fields with noncyclic ideal class groups

Let g be an odd positive integer and X be a positive real number. Bordism invariants of the mapping class group

We define new bordism and spin bordism invariants of certain subgroups of the mapping class group of a surface. In particular, they are invariants of the Johnson filtration of the mapping class group. The second and third terms of this filtration are the well-known Torelli group and Johnson subgroup, respectively. We introduce a new representation in terms of spin bordism, and we prove that this single representation contains all of the information given by the Johnson homomorphism, the Birman-Craggs homomorphism, and the Morita homomorphism.     

Edge colorings of graphs embeddable in a surface of low genus

In this paper, by using the Discharging Method, we show that any graph with maximum degree Δ 8 that is embeddable in a surface Σ of characteristic χ(Σ) 0 is class one and any graph with maximum degree Δ 9 that is embeddable in a surface Σ of characteristic χ(Σ) = − 1 is class one. For surfaces of characteristic 0 or −1, these results improve earlier results of Mel'nikov.

Estimating the spectral measure of an extreme value distribution

Let (X₁, Y₁), (X₂, Y₂),…, (X_n, Y_n) be a random sample from a bivariate distribution function F which is in the domain of attraction of a bivariate extreme value distribution function G. This G is characterized by the extreme value indices and its spectral measure or angular measure. The extreme value indices determine both the marginals and the spectral measure determines the dependence structure. In this paper, we construct an empirical measure, based on the sample, which is a consistent estimator of the spectral measure. We also show for positive extreme value indices the asymptotic normality of the estimator under a suitable 2nd order strengthening of the bivariate domain of attraction condition.     

On Sequential Separability

A new criterion for the sequential separability of the space C(X) of continuous real-valued functions on X in the topology of simple convergence is obtained.     

Caractère de Chern bivariant

We construct a bivariant Chern character with values in Jones-Kassel's bivariant cyclic cohomology. This is done forK-theoretic objects such as idempotents, bimodules, quasi-homomorphisms à la Cuntz and extensions of algebras.
