The current study explored the difficulties teachers encounter when teaching common fractions division, focusing on teachers’ knowledge concerning this issue. Nine teachers who study towards a M.Ed. degree in mathematics education demonstrated the algorithms they apply in order to solve fractions division problems, described how they teach the subject, and attempted to explain a student's mistake, in understanding a word problem involving dividing by fraction. The findings indicate there is a missing link in the teachers’ pedagogical capability, stemming from insufficient content knowledge. They presented different solution algorithms and reported using constructivist teaching methods, yet the methods they described couldn't lead a student to understand the logic behind the algorithm they teach (invert-and-multiply – multiplication by an inverse number, in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum). Furthermore, the participating teachers did not possess specialized mathematics content knowledge (SCK) and knowledge of content and students (KCS), enabling them to identify the source of a student's misconception.  相似文献

Strict stability for a nonlinear system of impulsive differential equations with ‘supremum’ is defined and studied. Razhumikhin method with piecewise continuous scalar Lyapunov functions and comparison results for scalar impulsive differential equations are the bases of the main proofs. To unify a variety of stability concepts and to offer a general framework for the investigation of the stability theory, the notion of stability in terms of two measures has been applied. An example illustrating the usefulness of the obtained sufficient conditions is also included.  相似文献

We investigate global existence and asymptotic behavior of the 3D quasilinear hyperbolic equations with nonlinear damping on a bounded domain with slip boundary condition, which describes the propagation of heat waves for rigid solids at very low temperature, below about 20 K. The global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions are obtained when the initial data are near its equilibrium. Time asymptotically, the internal energy is conjectured to satisfy the porous medium equation and the heat flux obeys the classical Darcy’s-type law. Based on energy estimates, we show that the classical solution converges to steady state exponentially fast in time. Moreover, we also verify that the same is true for the corresponding initial boundary value problem of porous medium equation and thus justifies the validity of Darcy’s-type law in large time.  相似文献

We investigate the Robust Deviation Balanced Minimum Evolution Problem (RDBMEP), a combinatorial optimization problem that arises in computational biology when the evolutionary distances from taxa are uncertain and varying inside intervals. By exploiting some fundamental properties of the objective function, we present a mixed integer programming model to exactly solve instances of the RDBMEP and discuss the biological impact of uncertainty on the solutions to the problem. Our results give perspective on the mathematics of the RDBMEP and suggest new directions to tackle phylogeny estimation problems affected by uncertainty.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new class of impulsive differential equations, which is more suitable to characterize memory processes of the drugs in the bloodstream and the consequent absorption for the body. This fact offers many difficulties in applying the usual methods to analysis and novel techniques in Bielecki’s normed Banach spaces and thus makes the study of existence and uniqueness theorems interesting. Meanwhile, new concepts of Bielecki–Ulam’s type stability are introduced and generalized Ulam–Hyers–Rassias stability results on a compact interval are established. This is another novelty of this paper. Finally, an interesting example is given to illustrate our theory results.  相似文献

This article presents a numerical algorithm using the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. To deal with time derivatives, the forward time differences are employed yielding the Poisson’s equation. The MLPG method with the moving least-square (MLS) approximation for trial function is chosen to solve the Poisson’s equation. In numerical examples, the local symmetric weak form (LSWF) and the local unsymmetric weak form (LUSWF) with a classical Gaussian weight and an improved Gaussian weight on both regular and irregular nodes are demonstrated. It is found that LSWF1 with a classical Gaussian weight order 2 gives the most accurate result.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the variational iteration method “VIM” is in many instances a version of fixed point iteration methods such as Picard’s scheme. In a wide range of problems, the correction functional resulting from the VIM can be interpreted and/or formulated from well-known fixed point strategies using Green’s functions. A number of examples are included to assert the validity of our claim. The test problems include first and higher order initial value problems.  相似文献

Maximum likelihood (ML) estimation is a popular method for parameter estimation when modeling discrete or count observations but unfortunately it may be sensitive to outliers. Alternative robust methods like minimum Hellinger distance (MHD) have been proposed for estimation. However, in the multivariate case, the MHD method leads to computer intensive estimation especially when the joint probability density function is complicated. In this paper, a Hellinger type distance measure based on the probability generating function is proposed as a tool for quick and robust parameter estimation. The proposed method yields consistent estimators, performs well for simulated and real data, and can be computationally much faster than ML or MHD estimation.  相似文献

In this paper, we applied relatively new analytical techniques, the homotopy analysis method (HAM) and the Adomian’s decomposition method (ADM) for solving time-fractional Fornberg–Whitham equation. The homotopy analysis method contains the auxiliary parameter, which provides us with a simple way to adjust and control the convergence region of solution series. The fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. A comparison is made the between HAM and ADM results. The present methods performs extremely well in terms of efficiency and simplicity. Numerical results for different particular cases of the problem are presented.  相似文献
