Epi-Convergence and Lower and Epi-Upper Semicontinuous Approximations in Distribution

The paper introduces an extension of the epi-convergence, the lower semicontinuous approximation and the epi-upper semicontinuous approximation of random real functions in distribution. The new notions could be helpful tools for sensitivity analyzes of stochastic optimization problems. The research is evoked by S. Vogel and continues the research started by Vogel and the author.     

Existence of an Angular Density of Roots of Entire Functions of Order Zero

We obtain sufficient conditions for the set of roots of an entire function of order zero of strongly regular growth to possess an angular density.     

Modularity and Total Ellipticity of Some Multiple Series of Hypergeometric Type

We collect some new evidence for the validity of the conjecture that every totally elliptic hypergeometric series is modular invariant and briefly discuss a generalization of such series to Riemann surfaces of arbitrary genus.     

New class of generating functions associated with generalized hypergeometric polynomials

In this paper authors prove a general theorem on generating relations for a certain sequence of functions. Many formulas involving the families of generating functions for generalized hypergeometric polynomials are shown here to be special cases of a general class of generating functions involving generalized hypergeometric polynomials and multiple hypergeometric series of several variables. It is then shown how the main result can be applied to derive a large number of generating functions involving hypergeometric functions of Kampé de Fériet, Srivastava, Srivastava-Daoust, Chaundy, Fasenmyer, Cohen, Pasternack, Khandekar, Rainville and other multiple Gaussian hypergeometric polynomials scattered in the literature of special functions.     

Must thermodynamic functions be piecewise analytic?

There seems to be no general theoretical argument to support the idea that thermodynamic functions are piecewise analytic. We suggest that nonanalyticity may be associated with Gibbs states which are quasiperiodic under space translations, or have a more general nonperiodic (turbulent) behavior.     

Design and optimal tuning of nonlinear PI compensators

In this paper, linear time-invariant single-input single-output (SISO) systems that are stabilizable by linear proportional and integral (PI) compensators are considered. For such systems, a five-parameter nonlinear PI compensator is proposed. The parameters of the proposed compensator are tuned by solving an optimization problem. The optimization problem always has a solution.Additionally, a general nonlinear PI compensator is proposed and is approximated by easy-to-compute compensators, for instance, a six-parameter nonlinear PI compensator. The parameters of the approximate compensators are tuned to satisfy an optimality condition. The superiority of the proposed nonlinear PI compensators over linear PI compensators is discussed and is demonstrated for two feedback systems.

Relationship between the 2-body Parameters of the Biswas-Hamann and the Bauer-Maysenholder-Seeger Potential Functions

A theoretical relation between the Bauer-Maysenholder-Seeger (BMS) and the Biswas-Hamann (BH) potential function has been developed herein for the case of 2-body interaction. By equating derivatives of these two potential functions for the 2-body part, a loose form of BMS is expressed in terms of BH parameters with a scaling factor. The validity of the developed parametric relationships has been graphically demonstrated, and the suitability discussed with reference to the extent and direction of bond distortion.
