Methods are described for gathering positrons from an extended region and causing them to impact upon a target surface within a small time interval. The most optimistic of these proposed schemes suggests that one should be able to produce ∼10−9s positron pulses with peak intensities of ∼1011s−1 starting with a ∼200 m Ci58Co β+ source. These pulses should be useful for studying time-dependent interactions of positrons at surfaces.  相似文献

Hulett et al. have suggested forming a magnified image of the positrons re-emitted from a surface having a negative positron affinity as a new kind of microscope, the positron re-emission microscope (PRM). We have built an immersion objective (cathode lens) for the PRM and obtained the first images using a Ni film back-illuminated with 5 keV positrons from a brightness enhanced slow positron beam. The magnification at the detector plane is 330x and the resolution is better than 1m. With the addition of a projector lens the magnification and resolution should be sufficient to observe defect structures and large molecules on the surface.  相似文献

Chevron patterns and defect lattices are unique patterns found in the electrohydrodynamic convection of nematic liquid crystals. We study numerically the stability and bifurcations of the chevron patterns and the limit-cycle oscillation of defect lattices using a two-dimensional anisotropic model equation. Simplified one dimensional models are derived by truncating Fourier modes from the two-dimensional model to qualitatively understand the chevron patterns and the defect lattices. The pattern formation and the dynamical behaviors in the one-dimensional models are compared with the numerical simulations of the two-dimensional model.  相似文献

We analyse the process of rapid positron annihilation in large polyatomic molecules due to positron capture into vibrational Feshbach resonances. Resonant annihilation occurs in molecules which can bind positrons, and we analyse positron binding to alkanes using zero-range potentials. Related questions of spectra of annihilation gamma quanta and molecular fragmentation following annihilation, are discussed briefly.  相似文献

InGaN/GaN‐based light emitting diodes (LEDs) grown on m ‐plane, a ‐plane and off‐axis between m ‐ and a ‐plane GaN bulk substrates were investigated. A smooth surface was obtained when a ‐plane substrate was applied; however, large amounts of defects were observed. Photoluminescence measurements of the LEDs with a well thickness of 2.5 nm revealed that all the LEDs showed the peak emission wavelength at 389 nm. The PL intensity of the a ‐plane LED is one order of magnitude lower than that of the m ‐plane LED. The a ‐plane LEDs showed significant lower electroluminescence output powers than m ‐plane LEDs, suggesting that excitons are trapped by the defects, which act as non‐radiative recombination centers. Positron lifetime measurements were carried out at room temperature before and after isochronous annealing of cylindrical, machined fatigue specimens and of round slabs of austenitic stainless steel AISI 316 L deformed in compression. Annealing experiments are evaluated in terms of vacancy migration and sinking to grain boundaries and dislocations. The model assumes spherical grains with a homogeneous initial distribution of vacancies. A vacancy migration enthalpy of HM V=(0.9±0.15) eV was found. It is concluded that positron trapping at dislocation lines does not significantly contribute to positron lifetime measurements at room temperature and that single vacancies are the dominating positron traps. Positron annihilation depth profiling on cross-sectional areas prepared from machined specimens using a positron microprobe with 10 μm spatial resolution shows that machining of cylindrical specimens creates vacancies up to 5 mm below the surface. Analytical prediction of heteroclinic bifurcation of the strongly nonlinear oscillator is presented by using the extended normal form method. We consider the approximate periodic solution of the system subject to the quintic nonlinearity by introducing the undetermined fundamental frequency. For the occurrence of heteroclinicity, the bifurcation criterion is accomplished. It depends on the contact of the limit cycle with the saddle equilibrium. As is illustrated, the explicit application shows that the new results coincide very well with the results of numerical simulation when disturbing parameter is of arbitrary magnitude.  相似文献

A mathematical model proposed by Grubelnk et al. [Biophys. Chem. 94 (2001) 59] is employed to study the physiological role of mitochondria and the cytosolic proteins in generating complex Ca^2+ oscillations, lntracellulax bursting calcium oscillations of point-point, point-cycle and two-folded limit cycle types are observed and explanations are given based on the fast/slow dynamical analysis, especially for point-cycle and two-folded limit cycle types, which have not been reported before. Furthermore, synchronization of coupled bursters of Ca^2+ oscillations via gap junctions and the effect of bursting types on synchronization of coupled cells are studied. It is argued that bursting oscillations of point-point type may be superior to achieve synchronization than that of point cycle type.  相似文献

The electronic and positronic properties of the pentanary semiconductor alloys GaxIn1-xPySbzAs1-y-z lattice matched to GaSb have been studied. The electron wave function is calculated semiempirically using the pseudopotential band model under the virtual crystal approximation. The positron wave function is evaluated under the point core approximation for the ionic potential. Electronic and positronic quantities namely, electronic structure and band gaps, positron band structure, effective mass and affinity, and electron-positron momentum densities have been predicted and their dependence on the phosphorus composition has been discussed. After a transformation, the inverse scattering transform for the derivative nonlinear Schr6dinger (DNLS) equation is developed in terms of squared spectral parameter. Following this approach, we obtain the orthogonality and completeness relations of free Jost solutions, which is impossibly constructed with usual spectral parameter in the previous works. With the help these relations, the Zakharov-Shabat equations as well as Marchenko equations of IST are derived in the standard way.  相似文献
