The asymptotic fields near the tip of a crack steadily propagating in a ductile material under Mode III loading conditions are investigated by adopting an incremental version of the indeterminate theory of couple stress plasticity displaying linear and isotropic strain hardening. The adopted constitutive model is able to account for the microstructure of the material by incorporating two distinct material characteristic lengths. It can also capture the strong size effects arising at small scales, which results from the underlying microstructures. According to the asymptotic crack tip fields for a stationary crack provided by the indeterminate theory of couple stress elasticity, the effects of microstructure mainly consist in a switch in the sign of tractions and displacement and in a substantial increase in the singularity of tractions ahead of the crack-tip, with respect to the classical solution of LEFM and EPFM. The increase in the stress singularity also occurs for small values of the strain hardening coefficient and is essentially due to the skew-symmetric stress field, since the symmetric stress field turns out to be non-singular. Moreover, the obtained results show that the ratio η introduced by Koiter has a limited effect on the strength of the stress singularity. However, it displays a strong influence on the angular distribution of the asymptotic crack tip fields.  相似文献

This paper studies nonlinear waves in a prestretched cylinder composed of a Blatz-Ko material. Starting from the three-dimensional field equations, two coupled PDEs for modeling weakly nonlinear long waves are derived by using the method of coupled series and asymptotic expansions. Comparing with some other existing models in literature, an important feature of these equations is that they are consistent with traction-free surface conditions asymptotically. Also, the material nonlinearity is kept to the third order. As these two PDEs are quite complicated, the attention is focused on traveling waves, for which a first-order system of ODEs are obtained. We use the technique of dynamical systems to carry out the analysis. It turns out that the system is three parameters (the prestretch, the propagating speed and an integration constant) dependent and there are totally seven types of phase planes which contain trajectories representing bounded traveling waves. The parametric conditions for each phase plane are established. A variety of solitary and periodic waves are found. An important finding is that kink waves can propagate in a Blatz-Ko cylinder. We also find that one type of periodic waves has an interesting feature in the profile slope. Analytical expressions for all bounded traveling waves are obtained.  相似文献

We derive solutions of the Kirchhoff equations for a knot tied on an infinitely long elastic rod subjected to combined tension and twist, and held at both endpoints at infinity. We consider the case of simple (trefoil) and double (cinquefoil) knots; other knot topologies can be investigated similarly. The rod model is based on Hookean elasticity but is geometrically nonlinear. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear self-contact problem with unknown contact regions. It is solved by means of matched asymptotic expansions in the limit of a loose knot. We obtain a family of equilibrium solutions depending on a single loading parameter (proportional to applied twisting moment divided by square root of pulling force), which are asymptotically valid in the limit of a loose knot, ε→0. Without any a priori assumption, we derive the topology of the contact set, which consists of an interval of contact flanked by two isolated points of contacts. We study the influence of the applied twist on the equilibrium.  相似文献

Using matched asymptotic expansions with fractional exponents, we obtain original transmission conditions describing the limit behavior for soft, hard and rigid thin interphases obeying the Saint Venant-Kirchhoff material model. The novel transmission conditions, generalizing the classical linear imperfect interface model, are discussed and compared with existing models proposed in the literature for thin films undergoing finite strain. As an example of implementation of the proposed interface laws, the uniaxial tension and compression responses of butt joints with soft and hard interphases are given in closed form.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a new family of tests for the dilation order based in a characterization of the dilation order. This family of tests statistics can be used for testing the exponentiality against HNBUE (HNWUE) alternatives. Asymptotic distributional results are given for both families of tests. In this paper we study the even/odd dissection of the Stanley product, and show how to use it to prove (i) and (ii) with no restriction on n. Moreover, we establish the following new result:
Two proofs of this surprising inequality are given. The first one uses the Göllnitz–Gordon partition theorem. The second one is an immediate corollary of a new partition inequality, which we prove in a combinatorial manner. Our methods are elementary.
